Rhea Ripley Bio

Demi Bennett is an Australian professional wrestler who performs on the Raw brand under the ring name Rhea Ripley. Signed to WWE since July 2017, she is regarded as one of the best female wrestlers in the world due to her popularity and in-ring ability. She is a two-time Women’s World Champion and a one-time WWE Raw Women’s Champion.

Her first reign as Women’s World Champion lasted 380 days, tying Bayley as the longest-reigning champion in that title’s history. Ripley made history as the first female Australian champion in WWE and holds the distinction of being the only wrestler to have held all five of WWE’s major women’s championships.

Early Life and Background

Demi Bennett was born on 11 October 1996 in Adelaide, South Australia, and is of Italian descent through her mother’s side. She grew up in the beachside Adelaide suburb of Glenelg and attended Henley High School throughout her teenage years. Watching professional wrestling as a child, she cites The Miz as a primary inspiration that drew her toward a career in the ring.

Bennett pursued multiple athletic disciplines growing up, including swimming, karate, rugby, netball, and soccer. That varied sporting background contributed to the physical versatility she would later display as a professional wrestler. She is also a lifelong supporter of the Adelaide Football Club.

Path to Professional Wrestling

Bennett made her professional wrestling debut on 22 June 2013 in Riot City Wrestling at the age of 16, launching a career on the Australian independent circuit. She spent several years in Riot City Wrestling, becoming a two-time RCW Women’s Champion, and also competed in Melbourne City Wrestling and New Horizon Pro Wrestling. In 2015, she toured Japan, competing for Pro Wrestling Zero1, Reina Joshi Puroresu, Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling, and World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana, gaining international experience that broadened her in-ring skills.

In July 2017, Bennett signed with WWE and adopted the ring name Rhea Ripley, combining the Greek goddess Rhea with Ellen Ripley from the Alien film franchise. She entered the inaugural Mae Young Classic that same year and made her NXT television debut on 25 October 2017. Her performances in the 2018 Mae Young Classic, where she reached the semi-finals, earned her a spot in the original roster of NXT UK.

Rhea Ripley Career

Early Career (2013–2017)

Bennett built her foundation on the Australian and Japanese independent circuits from 2013 through 2017. In Riot City Wrestling, she captured the RCW Women’s Championship twice, establishing herself as one of the top female competitors in Australian professional wrestling. She expanded her reach through Melbourne City Wrestling and New Horizon Pro Wrestling, and her 2015 tour of Japan saw her compete in Korakuen Hall and other prominent venues across four major joshi puroresu promotions.

NXT UK and NXT Breakthrough (2017–2021)

After joining WWE in 2017, Ripley became a standout in the 2018 Mae Young Classic, defeating three opponents before losing to Io Shirai in the semi-finals. That performance led to her inclusion in the newly created NXT UK brand, where she won an eight-woman tournament in August 2018 to become the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion. With that victory, she became the first female Australian champion in WWE history. She successfully defended the title against several contenders before losing it to Toni Storm on 12 January 2019 after a 139-day reign.

Ripley transitioned to the NXT brand in the United States in late 2019 and achieved another WWE first by defeating Shayna Baszler to win the NXT Women’s Championship on 18 December 2019, becoming the first wrestler to hold both the NXT UK Women’s and NXT Women’s Championships. She defended the title against Toni Storm at Worlds Collide in January 2020 and became the first NXT champion to defend an NXT title at WrestleMania when she challenged Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. She lost the title to Flair that night but remained a central figure in NXT through 2020 and into early 2021.

Main Roster and The Judgment Day Era (2021–Present)

Ripley made her main roster debut on 22 March 2021, challenging Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 37. She defeated Asuka on Night 2 of WrestleMania 37 to win the title for the first time on the main roster. She defended the championship successfully multiple times before losing it to Charlotte Flair at Money in the Bank on 18 July 2021, ending her reign at 98 days. Later that year, she formed a tag team with Nikki A.S.H. and the pair captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on 20 September 2021, holding the titles for 63 days.

In May 2022, Ripley joined The Judgment Day stable alongside Edge, Damian Priest, and later Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio. On 28 January 2023, she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match as the first entrant, becoming the fourth wrestler and the first woman ever to win a Royal Rumble from the number one position. She also set the record for longest time spent in a women’s Royal Rumble match at 1:01:08. At WrestleMania 39 on 1 April 2023, she defeated Charlotte Flair to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship, becoming the seventh WWE Women’s Triple Crown Champion and the fifth Women’s Grand Slam Champion at age 26, the youngest Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

After the title was renamed the Women’s World Championship in June 2023, Ripley entered a dominant reign that included successful defenses against Zelina Vega, Natalya, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, and others throughout 2023 and early 2024. She headlined Elimination Chamber: Perth in her home country of Australia in February 2024, successfully defending the title against Nia Jax. She defeated Becky Lynch at WrestleMania XL Night 1 in April 2024 to continue the reign, which ended at 380 days when she was forced to vacate the championship following a legitimate arm injury sustained in a backstage attack by Liv Morgan. After a three-month recovery, she returned in July 2024, forming an alliance with Damian Priest known as The Terror Twins. She reclaimed the Women’s World Championship for a second time at the Raw premiere on Netflix on 6 January 2025, defeating Liv Morgan to end their long-running feud. She held the title for 56 days before losing it to Iyo Sky on 3 March 2025, and unsuccessfully challenged Sky in a critically acclaimed triple threat match at WrestleMania 41 Night 2 that received a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer, the first women’s match in WWE history to receive such a rating.

Style and Strengths

Ripley is known for her powerful and physical in-ring style, combining impressive strength with surprising agility for her frame. Her athletic background in multiple sports translates to a diverse offensive arsenal and an ability to adapt across different match types and stipulations. Her partnership with Damian Priest as The Terror Twins has been one of the most reliable duos on the Raw roster, combining her ruthless striking with his methodical power game.
