Sammy Guevara Bio

Samuel Guevara, known professionally as Sammy Guevara, is an American professional wrestler born on July 28, 1993. He is signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and is a record-tying three-time former AEW TNT Champion. Guevara is also a current ROH World Tag Team Champion, holding the title alongside Rush as part of his membership in the heel stable La Facción Ingobernable (LFI). Throughout his career, he has competed across the United States, Mexico, and Japan, building a reputation as one of the most athletic high-flyers of his generation.

Beyond the squared circle, Guevara has cultivated a popular YouTube vlog channel and maintains a strong social media presence. He is married to fellow professional wrestler Tay Melo, with whom he shares a daughter named Luna Guevara.

Early Life and Background

Sammy Guevara was born on July 28, 1993, in Houston, Texas. He was raised in the nearby suburb of Katy, Texas, by a Cuban father and an American mother. His parents divorced when Guevara was young, an experience he has referenced as shaping his early years.

Guevara became a fan of professional wrestling in 2004 after attending a WWE Smackdown show in Houston, where he watched Booker T and Rey Mysterio perform. The experience inspired him to pursue a career inside the ring, and in 2010 he enrolled at Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school in Houston to begin his formal training.

Path to Professional Wrestling

After graduating from Booker T’s wrestling school, Guevara made his major promotion debut on January 5, 2013, for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). He spent the early part of the 2010s working the independent circuit and developing his in-ring craft across the United States. In 2016, he even worked a dark tag team match in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide alongside Laredo Kid against Los Matadores, signaling his growing reputation south of the border.

Guevara’s profile rose in 2017, the same year he first appeared on Impact Wrestling’s weekly program Impact Xplosion. He competed in the Impact Super X Cup tournament and debuted in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s prestigious Battle of Los Angeles tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals. That same year, Guevara attended a tryout at WWE’s Performance Center and worked a handful of dark matches for the promotion, but he ultimately was not signed.

Sammy Guevara Career

Early Career (2013–2018)

Throughout the early and mid-2010s, Guevara worked for a wide variety of American independent promotions, sharpening his craft as a high-flying competitor. He debuted for Major League Wrestling on December 7, 2017, and became a recurring presence on MLW Fusion throughout 2018. At PWG’s May 2018 Bask In His Glory event, Guevara challenged WALTER for the PWG World Championship in the main event, further establishing himself on the U.S. independent scene.

In 2018, Guevara joined the cast of Lucha Underground’s fourth season on the El Rey Network, which was co-produced by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. That same year, he made his official AAA debut at Verano de Escándalo 2018. At Triplemanía XXVI, he captured the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship before dropping the title to Laredo Kid in February 2019.

All Elite Wrestling Debut (2019–2020)

On February 7, 2019, Guevara was announced as one of the inaugural signings of the newly formed All Elite Wrestling promotion. At AEW’s first event, Double or Nothing on May 25, Guevara was defeated by Kip Sabian. He aligned himself early with AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, helping form The Inner Circle alongside Jericho, Jake Hager, Santana, and Ortiz.

Throughout 2019 and into 2020, Guevara feuded with Darby Allin and supported Jericho’s championship reigns. He competed in the tournament to crown the inaugural AEW TNT Champion but was eliminated in the first round by Allin. Following a 2020 suspension for an inappropriate past remark, Guevara completed sensitivity training, returned to television, and eventually won the TNT Championship on September 29 by defeating Miro on Dynamite.

AEW TNT Championship Reigns (2020–2022)

Guevara’s first TNT Championship reign lasted 87 days, ending at the hands of Cody Rhodes on December 25, 2020. After Cody was exposed to COVID-19, Guevara won the interim TNT title at Battle of the Belts I by defeating Dustin Rhodes. On January 26, 2022, at AEW Beach Break, Guevara defeated Cody Rhodes in a ladder match to unify the championships and reclaim the undisputed TNT title.

His second reign ended on March 9, 2022, when he lost the TNT title to Scorpio Sky. Guevara quickly rebounded, winning his record-tying third TNT Championship at Battle of the Belts II. That third reign lasted only 12 days, the shortest in the title’s history, as he dropped the belt back to Sky in a ladder match on April 27, 2022, suffering a shoulder injury in the process.

Jericho Appreciation Society and Don Callis Family (2022–2024)

In mid-2022, Guevara reunited with Chris Jericho, joining the Jericho Appreciation Society (JAS) and operating as part of the Le Sex Gods sub-unit alongside Jericho. He also returned to AAA that year, teaming with Tay Conti at Triplemanía XXX to win the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship.

By late 2023, Guevara left JAS and aligned himself with Don Callis, joining the Don Callis Family. He feuded with former mentor Jericho throughout late 2023 and into 2024. A February 2024 match with Jeff Hardy resulted in a brief suspension for not following concussion protocol.

Ring of Honor and Sons of Texas (2024–2025)

Guevara debuted for AEW’s sister promotion Ring of Honor in 2024, coming to the aid of Dustin Rhodes against The Dark Order. On August 17, he and Rhodes won the ROH World Tag Team Championship, defeating The Undisputed Kingdom on AEW Collision. They soon formed the Sons of Texas stable alongside Marshall and Ross Von Erich.

The Sons of Texas successfully defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship at Final Battle 2024 in a Texas Bullrope match and again in 2025 at Wrestle Dynasty and Supercard of Honor. Their reign ended at 378 days on August 29, 2025, after Rhodes was forced to vacate due to injury. Later that night at Death Before Dishonor, Guevara turned heel by attacking the Von Erichs and joined La Facción Ingobernable, teaming with Rush to win the vacant ROH World Tag Team Championship.

Style and Strengths

Guevara is widely recognized as one of AEW’s most athletic high-flyers. His signature moves include the GTH (Got That Heat) cutter and a spectacular 630 senton from the top rope. He combines fast-paced aerial offense with strong storytelling in his matches, earning a rare five-star rating from wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer for his 2022 ladder match against Cody Rhodes.

Notable Events and Milestones

Guevara’s three TNT Championship reigns tie him for the most in AEW history. His Sons of Texas reign as ROH World Tag Team Champion stood at 378 days, one of the longest in recent ROH history. His 2022 ladder match against Cody Rhodes remains a defining moment of his career, and his 2025 turn to join La Facción Ingobernable marked a significant new chapter.
