Standing 183 centimeters tall and competing at approximately 100 kilograms, he has built a career defined by hard-hitting tag team wrestling and a commanding ring presence. He is a former WWE Tag Team Champion and a founding member of the influential Bullet Club stable in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).

He is also recognized by the alternate ring names Kava King and Tonga Strong Machine, and he has carried the nickname MFT, short for Mother F’n Tonga, throughout his WWE run.
Early Life and Background
Alipate Aloisio Leone was born in Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, before relocating to the United States as a child. Along with his younger biological brother Taula, he was adopted by his maternal aunt and her husband, professional wrestler Tonga Fifita, better known to fans as Haku or Meng. The family brought the boys to Poinciana, Florida, where Leone grew up alongside his biological cousin and adoptive brother Tevita Fifita and his older sister Vika.
After graduating from Poinciana High School, Leone enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, where he served six years as a B-2 Spirit mechanic. During this period, his cousin Tevita was playing college football with the UTEP Miners. In a 2004 phone call, the two agreed to pursue professional wrestling once their military and athletic commitments were complete.
Path to Professional Wrestling
In January 2008, the Leone brothers approached the Dudley Boyz to use the training ring at the Team 3D Academy of Professional Wrestling and Sports Entertainment in Kissimmee, Florida. They were initially trained directly by their father, Haku, and family friend Ricky Santana before formally joining the academy, where Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley helped refine their fundamentals.
The brothers made their professional debut in November 2008, teaming as The Sons of Tonga in Southern Championship Wrestling in Florida. They continued under that name in World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) and Puerto Rico’s World Wrestling Council (WWC) before parting ways as a duo. That same November, both participated in a WWE tryout camp; Tevita was offered a contract (later appearing as Camacho), while Alipate was not, prompting him to continue developing on the independent circuit before heading to Japan in 2010.
Tama Tonga Career
Early Career (2008-2010)
Following his WWE tryout, Alipate continued working in WXW under the name Kava, capturing the WXW Television Championship on June 20, 2009, though he lost the title the same day. In early 2010, he returned to WWC as a singles competitor billed as King Tonga Jr., a nod to his father’s own Puerto Rican run as King Tonga.
He soon teamed with Idol Stevens as The New American Family, and the duo briefly held the WWC World Tag Team Championship. These formative years on the Florida and Puerto Rico independent scene gave Leone the in-ring experience that would soon catch the attention of a major Japanese promotion.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling Breakthrough (2010-2024)
Leone moved to Japan in 2010 to train with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and the company hired him after he impressed in tryouts. He debuted as Tama Tonga in May 2010 at the Super Junior Tag Tournament, then competed in the 2010 Best of the Super Juniors, finishing near the bottom of his block with four points. He also entered the 2010 and 2011 G1 Tag League tournaments, first with Hirooki Goto as Ara-tonga and then with Strong Man as Muscle Pavilion.
His career trajectory shifted in September 2012 when NJPW sent him to its Mexican partner promotion, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Tama Tonga reached the 2012 La Copa Junior Tournament finals before falling to La Sombra, and on November 13, 2012, he and El Terrible won the CMLL World Tag Team Championship from Atlantis and Diamante Azul. He continued to defend the title across both CMLL and NJPW events over the next several years.
Back in NJPW full-time, Tama Tonga became one of the founding members of Bullet Club on May 3, 2013, at Wrestling Dontaku, aligning with Prince Devitt, Bad Luck Fale, and Karl Anderson in a faction that would reshape modern professional wrestling. In March 2016, he recruited his brother Tevita, now known as Tanga Loa, into the group, and the duo officially formed the Guerrillas of Destiny (G.O.D.) tag team. On April 10, 2016, at Invasion Attack 2016, G.O.D. defeated Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma to capture the IWGP Tag Team Championship for the first time.
The brothers went on to win the IWGP Tag Team Championship a total of seven times, the 2020 World Tag League tournament, and, through the NJPW and Ring of Honor partnership, the ROH World Tag Team Championship. In singles competition, Tama Tonga captured the NEVER Openweight Championship four times, first winning it at Wrestling Dontaku in 2022 and most recently reclaiming it at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4, 2024. He also competed in multiple G1 Climax tournaments, with his strongest run coming in 2022, when he advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated by Kazuchika Okada.
