AAA’s Mr Iguana and Psycho Clown Shock WWE SmackDown Fans with Championship Challenge Debut

Published:

On the August 1 episode of WWE SmackDown, AAA wrestlers Mr Iguana and Psycho Clown made a surprise appearance to answer an open championship challenge. This marked their debut in a high-stakes match for the WWE SmackDown AAA Championship Challenge.

Background on the AAA World Tag Team Championship

Last month at TripleMania Regia III, cousins Angel and Berto Garza claimed the AAA World Tag Team Championship by winning a four-way contest. Their rivals in that match included Nic and Ryan Nemeth, the team of Psycho Clown and Pagano, and the then-champions Nueva Generación Dinamita.

Open Challenge Leads to Unexpected Opponents

During the SmackDown broadcast, Los Garza issued an open challenge to defend their tag team titles against any opponents. The challengers were revealed to be AAA’s Mr Iguana and Psycho Clown, who recently teamed up in six-man tag matches in WWE live events held in Mexico alongside Pagano.

Match Highlights and Outcome

Mr Iguana arrived accompanied by La Yesca and drew enthusiastic support from fans in Newark. Despite their strong fan backing, Mr Iguana and Psycho Clown were unable to capture the titles. Los Garza successfully retained the championships after executing an MTY move on Psycho Clown.

Current Status of Mr Iguana in AAA

Aside from this SmackDown appearance, Mr Iguana is a reigning AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion with partner La Hiedra. Recently, the duo defeated former WWE star Santino Marella and NXT’s Lola Vice at the Verano De Escandalo event, further establishing their dominance.

Continuing Interest in AAA and WWE SmackDown Crossovers

The appearance of AAA stars on WWE programming demonstrates a growing crossover between the promotions, generating excitement among fans. These interactions offer fresh matchups and highlight the evolving landscape of professional wrestling talent.
