Lawsuits Target Buffalo Store Massacre : Two lawsuits were filed against YouTube, Reddit, a body armor firm, and others on Wednesday. According to the cases, these corporations reportedly helped the perpetrator of the Buffalo store massacre that killed 10 Black people.
Everytown Law, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, filed the complaints in Buffalo state court. The May 2022 Tops store attack was blamed on numerous parties, including huge technological corporations, a local weapons vendor, and the attacker’s parents.
The kids of a 65-year-old and a group still traumatized a year later had legal actions taken. The scent is lovely. Harris Stanfield, who worked at Tops and witnessed the incident, said she still remembers it. One claim against the corporation involves 16 workers and survivors, including her.
Wayne Jones filed another claim for his mother, Celestine Chaney, who died while shopping with her older sister.
Payton Gendron, the attacker, went 200 miles from Conklin, New York, to the Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo. He was 18 years old. His shooting on May 14, 2022, killed 10 Black people and injured 3. The lawsuits claim he chose his target following an internet investigation.

The defendants are accused of motivating, equipping, and informing Gendron. The killer armor and pistol came from RMA Armament and Vintage Firearms in Endicott, New York. Mean LLC is accused of making a removable gun lock. This lock circumvents New York’s assault weapon and high-capacity magazine bans.
Google, Alphabet, and YouTube are accused of radicalizing Gendron and helping him organize his attack. People say Reddit promotes intense content and cool gear discussion.
Given Gendron’s history of misbehavior, Paul and Pamela were accused of failing to fulfill their duties.
Everytown Law CEO Eric Tirschwell said these cases help firms and individuals understand their gun violence obligations. Encourage them to improve their behavior.
We’ve asked the accused or their lawyers to react, but none have. A YouTuber expressed sympathy for the victims and survivors. They also said YouTube attempts to discover and remove extremist content. The Vintage Firearms owner didn’t speak.
Gendron received a life sentence with no chance of parole for killing someone and committing homegrown terrorism because he loathed specific individuals. If Gendron is convicted of federal hate crimes, the Justice Department will decide to seek the death sentence.
These lawsuits are the latest response to the killing. Last month, Facebook, Amazon, and Google were accused of radicalizing Gendron.
