The museum’s history of honoring exceptional Jewish women entrepreneurs, from Helena Rubinstein to Edith Halpert, underscores the importance of celebrating women’s legacies.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1921 to a well-off family, Aghion’s journey took her from flipping through French fashion magazines to the heart of French fashion in Paris. In an era where most clothing was tailored, Aghion aimed to offer ready-to-wear clothes with a distinct style. She founded her own label, Chloé, but borrowed a friend’s name for the brand, avoiding the use of her husband’s or maiden name due to societal norms.

Chloé’s early years featured designs inspired by the sporting clubs in Egypt. Aghion’s approach was more relaxed and lighter compared to the stiff suits of the time, ushering in a new style. The exhibition showcases the brand’s evolution and influence, from its early days to collaborations with prominent designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

Throughout its history, Chloé has evolved under the guidance of different creative directors, each leaving their unique imprint on the brand. Aghion’s legacy endures as Chloé continues to be a symbol of femininity, embodying a spirit of sorority and sisterhood.
