AFLW Pioneer Bec Goddard Bids Farewell: Bec Goddard, a prominent figure in the Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) scene, has recently announced her retirement from coaching. This decision comes after Goddard served two seasons with the Adelaide Crows, leading them to a premiership victory in 2017, and two seasons as the senior coach for Hawthorn’s AFLW team.

Goddard expressed that “the time was right” for both her and the club to pursue new directions. Having grown up as a lifelong supporter of Hawthorn, she described leading the club as its first AFLW senior coach as a dream come true. During her time at the helm, Goddard worked with a talented group of players, coaches, and staff, expressing gratitude for their support and acknowledging the shared achievements.

Hawthorn’s Chief Executive, Ashley Klein, praised Goddard’s substantial impact on the club, highlighting her legacy as the inaugural AFLW senior coach. Despite the team’s 3-7 finishes in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Goddard’s leadership has left an indelible mark on the club.
