Sacred Heart Community Service: In a heartwarming community endeavor, Sacred Heart Community Service is making Thanksgiving special for thousands by distributing 4,000 Thanksgiving dinner boxes filled with all the essentials. The food distribution, spanning from Monday to Wednesday, embodies the organization’s mission of a united community, ensuring every child and adult is free from poverty. Elizabeth Matthews, Senior Director of Community Development, expressed gratitude for the approximately 1,700 volunteers working tirelessly throughout the week to ensure families receive the food they need. With a working beehive of volunteers, the effort aims to alleviate the symptoms of poverty and create something truly special.
“I tell ya’, it is a working beehive putting this all together. Every piece and every component comes together to make something really special,” said Matthews.
While around 2,500 turkeys have been donated, there’s still a need for more. The line started forming as early as 6 a.m. on Monday, emphasizing the eagerness of the community to come together and support each other. Each recipient had to show their Sacred Heart membership card to receive a box, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to ensuring assistance reaches those in genuine need.

“Oftentimes we can feel disconnected from our own communities; we all work and live here, but at the same time, there are people here who are really in need, so we cant be oblivious to that. We have to help them and do what we can,” said college student Malyna Trujillo, volunteering with her family.
For the Trujillo family, volunteering during the holidays has become a tradition, instilling the values of giving back and gratitude in their children.
“Its important to instill in my kids giving back, gratitude around Thanksgiving and making sure that theyre making a small difference in somebodys life,” said mother Monica Trujillo.
The food distribution will continue at Sacred Heart on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, showcasing the power of community unity during the Thanksgiving season.
