Ichiro Pitching Magic: Ichiro Suzuki, the iconic figure in Major League Baseball’s history, may have retired, but his love for the game persists. At 50, he showcased his pitching prowess in the annual All-Star game in Tokyo, leaving an indelible mark.
The game, initiated two years ago to promote women’s baseball in Japan, witnessed Ichiro’s remarkable performance. He threw a 116-pitch complete game shutout, striking out nine and leading his team to a 4-0 victory at the Tokyo Dome.
Even in retirement, Ichiro’s skills shone brightly. His 86-mph fastball reminded everyone why he’s considered one of the greatest. Former MLB pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, who joined Ichiro in the game, added to the spectacle.
Ichiro’s contribution wasn’t limited to pitching; he also secured two hits, breaking a hitless streak in the exhibition contest’s last two years.
In a post-game interview, Ichiro expressed personal satisfaction, stating, “I am glad to make a hit. I hope to motivate female athletes by continuing my training.” His impact on the opposition was evident when a high school pitcher, Ryona Domae, struck him out. Despite the rarity, Ichiro praised Domae, saying, “I had a weird feeling—I typically have very few strikeouts. You should be proud of yourself.”

Ichiro’s journey began with the Orix Blue Wave in Japan, winning numerous accolades. His move to MLB in 2001 marked history, winning AL MVP and Rookie of the Year—achievements only matched by one other player in the same season.
From 2001-2010, Ichiro secured 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and made 10 straight All-Star appearances. In 2016, he achieved his 3,000th MLB hit, solidifying his legacy.
Beyond the game, Ichiro aims to inspire the next generation. He emphasized the series’ continuation, expressing gratitude and happiness for the energy shared.
