In South Korea, military service is compulsory for almost all able-bodied men, requiring 18 months of service by the age of 28. A 2020 parliamentary bill allows pop stars excelling in popular culture and art, like BTS members, to defer their service until the age of 30.
The band’s hiatus and military service plans were announced in October 2022, starting with Jin, the oldest member. The break from group activities was announced in June 2022 to pursue solo projects. J-Hope and Suga enlisted earlier this year.
BTS is anticipated to reunite as a group around 2025, respecting the country’s requirements for these healthy young men.
