Road Rage Rampage Ex Cop: Former San Jose Police Department officer Matthew Dominguez embarked on a downtown road rage spree, according to court documents obtained. The 33-year-old purposefully hit a victim’s car, flung glass bottles, then fled police.
Dominguez, who was fired from the police in summer 2022, has a troubled past. Masturbating in front of crime victims led to indecent exposure charges. He was also charged with sexual violence for touching a woman at an off-duty party in May 2021.
The road rage incident on November 17 unfolded as Dominguez drove his bright red Alfa Romeo. His reckless actions, including jumping on a car roof, triggered 911 calls, and dispatchers alerted officers that they were pursuing a former SJPD officer.
Court documents revealed that concerns about Dominguez’s behavior existed before the road rage incident. The SJPD obtained a gun violence emergency protective order against him in October, leading to the surrender of two firearms. Moreover, his ex-girlfriend had a domestic violence restraining order, describing him as “extremely mentally unstable.”
The restraining order detailed a violent incident where Dominguez attempted to punch his ex-girlfriend, accusing her of being a “slut.” The ex-girlfriend expressed fear, stating that he believed she engaged in sexual relations to secure a job.
While SJPD initially provided limited information about the road rage incident, court documents shed light on a saga of alarming behavior. Victims reported being pursued by Dominguez, who made obscene gestures, and one victim feared for their life.
For assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, and failing to yield, Dominguez has been in prison since November 17. The DA charged assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, and escape.
As the former SJPD officer awaits a pretrial conference, his troubling past and the recent road rage incident highlight law enforcement’s struggles to address misconduct.
