Triple H Faces Backlash Despite AJ Lee Return Boosting WWE SmackDown

Published:

Triple H succeeded in creating a buzz by bringing AJ Lee back to WWE, producing a viral moment on last Friday’s SmackDown. This return has helped boost the show’s popularity, yet some longtime fans remain critical despite the company’s recent successes.

Wrestling has regained mainstream attention for the first time since the Attitude Era, with celebrities and legends regularly attending major WWE events. The company is benefiting financially from the renewed interest.

WWE’s Storylines Receive Mixed Reviews Amid Popularity Surge

During an appearance on Konnan’s Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Disco Inferno expressed disappointment with WWE’s current narratives. While impressed by the packed arenas and crowd energy, he felt most storylines lack depth outside of the ongoing CM Punk versus Seth Rollins rivalry. AJ Lee’s return added excitement but hasn’t fully solved WWE’s creative challenges.

“Right now, the shows have been kind of lame, you know? Like creatively, they’ve been in a rut, but for some reason, as lame as the shows have been, the pops in the crowd in the arena are still very, very live. Like the crowd’s never flat, you know? It’s just well produced, like the production quality is excellent. Just right now, there’s just not a really good storyline to sink your teeth into except until like getting Becky Lynch involved with CM Punk,” Disco said.

Fan Reactions: John Cena’s Heel Turn and Declining Storylines

John Cena’s recent turn as a villain has faced criticism from fans, further emphasizing the perceived creative slump in WWE. The company appears to lack a gripping storyline following the conclusions of high-profile arcs like The Bloodline and Cody Rhodes’ saga. The absence of compelling plots remains a key point of concern among enthusiasts.

Disco Inferno on Logan Paul’s Role in WWE’s Popularity

Addressing the claim that Logan Paul is the main reason behind WWE’s resurgence, Disco Inferno offered a broader perspective. He credited the entire roster’s viral presence and the promotional power of WWE’s parent company, TKO, rather than attributing success to just one individual.

“It’s not just Logan Paul. It’s Logan Paul, it’s Roman (Reigns). It’s like all the guys in that roster. The fact that they’ve gone viral, they’re all going viral on social media and they’re hot, and it’s the way TKO is backing it with that machine, the marketing machine and stuff, you know? It’s just the WWE is just a machine with a lot of like weapons in its arsenal,” Disco said.

Despite mixed opinions on Logan Paul, there is no denying he remains one of the most recognizable internet personalities, contributing to WWE’s visibility across social media platforms.

The Road Ahead for WWE Storytelling and Fan Engagement

The WWE continues to enjoy significant commercial success and mainstream appeal, fueled by strong social media presence and star power, including veterans like Triple H and rising names such as AJ Lee. However, the challenge remains for the company to craft storylines that meet fan expectations for engaging narratives. How WWE adapts its storytelling in the coming months could determine if it maintains this momentum or faces further criticism from its dedicated audience.
