Britt Baker Poised for AEW Return After Long Hiatus

Published:

Britt Baker, a prominent figure in AEW, has remained off television for several months but is expected to make her return soon. According to recent updates, Baker is under contract with AEW, and her time away due to injuries might lead to an extension of that agreement, keeping her connected with the company through 2027.

Sean Ross Sapp, speaking during a Fightful Select Q&A, confirmed Baker’s ongoing contract status with AEW and noted the possibility of prolonging her deal because of her injury hiatus. The wrestler’s absence followed reports of backstage tension, including a controversial moment captured on camera where Baker allegedly said “nobody cares” after a segment with Serena Deeb. Additional friction involved other AEW personalities such as MJF and Alicia Atout, which reportedly created backstage heat and unease.

Baker’s match against Mercedes Mone also stirred controversy as it came after a prolonged period of inactivity and ongoing injury struggles. Critics claimed AEW partly shared the blame for positioning Baker in a major match despite her limited ring appearances during the past year. Nevertheless, sources indicate that Baker remains healthy and motivated, eager to resume her role once AEW deems the timing appropriate.

With at least a year remaining on her contract, Baker’s AEW return is anticipated as the promotion prepares to reintegrate her into storylines and matches, signaling a significant moment for fans awaiting her comeback.

Adam Copeland Joins Cast of The Beekeeper 2

Adam Copeland, known for his wrestling career and expanding acting resume, has been added to the ensemble of the upcoming film The Beekeeper 2. The sequel to the 2024 action movie stars Jason Statham reprising his role as Adam Clay, alongside Pom Klementieff, famous for her appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Mission: Impossible series.

The original film followed the story of Clay, a retired elite agent who returns to action to seek justice for a fallen friend. The sequel will also feature returning cast members such as Jeremy Irons, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, and Jemma Redgrave, with Yara Shahidi joining the new lineup.

The Beekeeper 2 is directed by Timo Tjahjanto, with a screenplay penned by Kurt Wimmer, continuing his work from the first film. Production is headed by Statham’s Punch Palace and Miramax, among other collaborators, with Amazon MGM Studios handling distribution. Copeland balances his AEW commitments with his growing acting career; his recent role was Ares, the God of War, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Jack Perry and Luchasaurus Reunite Jurassic Express Amid Challenges

AEW superstar Jack Perry has reunited with Luchasaurus, reviving the popular Jurassic Express tag team after a period of separation. Perry discussed the reunion during a recent appearance on the Battleground podcast, revealing that backstage resistance nearly prevented the duo’s comeback. There had been ideas floated about reintroducing them as darker, villainous characters, but Perry and Luchasaurus ultimately pushed through those obstacles.

Reflecting on their long friendship, Perry said,

“That was the culmination of so long. Without saying too much and throwing certain people under the bus — maybe one day — he’s one of my best friends in the entire world, in wrestling and out, and that’s something we’ve been talking about for a long time. There were many iterations over the years of how we would come back together. There was an evil version that somebody else ruined, and we didn’t get to do it, and there was all sorts of stuff.”

Perry also highlighted the seriousness of Luchasaurus’ health scare last year, where pneumonia nearly claimed his life. He recalled,

“This past year, we both ended up being off. He was off; he had pneumonia, which has been documented, and all that, but it turned out to be pretty serious, and he almost died, which is surreal. Guy’s like your best friend, and I’m talking to him every day and all that. Then all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh, I could have died.’ It really puts things into perspective, you know, just how fragile life is and really what’s important, because it’s easy, I feel like, to get lost in the weeds of like, ‘I’m pissed about this, I hate this guy. I want to do this,’ so we do. It really puts it all in perspective.”

Perry added that despite the difficulties with scheduling and opposition behind the scenes, they remained determined.

“We were thinking the way it had worked out. We were both off. We wanted to do this again, because we felt like we could do it better than the first time, and we both know ourselves so much more, and it’s different. Then it turned out to be just about the hardest thing in the world to make it happen, just scheduling and things were coming up, and there were certain people who seemed hell bent on not letting it happen. But we fought through it all, and we kept going. Finally, it culminated in that moment that you saw, and it just felt so good. I feel like I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better.”

AEW Contract Extensions and Backstage Dynamics

Britt Baker’s contract with AEW reportedly includes at least one more year, with the possibility of extending through 2027 due to time missed from injuries. Her hiatus caused a ripple of challenges within AEW’s environment, where backstage tensions surfaced involving other wrestlers and media figures. The friction has, at times, been a source of frustration within the company’s ranks, feeding an atmosphere of hostility.

Despite past controversies, AEW acknowledges Baker as a valuable talent. The company’s balancing act involves managing wrestler health carefully while maintaining compelling storylines, especially when featuring athletes like Baker, whose recent injury setbacks have complicated her ring involvement. The prospect of Baker’s return suggests a renewed focus on integrating her into AEW programming with proper consideration for her well-being and performance readiness.

Significance and Future Outlook for Britt Baker in AEW

Britt Baker’s anticipated AEW return marks a critical phase both for her career and for AEW’s storytelling potential. Her absence has generated rumors and backstage tension, highlighting the challenges wrestling promotions face when handling athlete health amid high expectations. Her readiness to come back signals a chance for AEW to capitalize on her popularity and ring skills while addressing previous missteps regarding her usage.

The company’s approach to Baker’s reintroduction may set a precedent for how AEW manages injured talent moving forward. With her contract potentially extending through 2027, AEW has flexibility to craft long-term plans surrounding her character. Simultaneously, other talents like Jack Perry and Luchasaurus exemplify how relationships and health crises influence team dynamics and story direction.

As AEW continues producing content and planning future events, Baker’s eventual return will likely be a focal point, promising fresh narratives and renewed fan interest in one of its brightest stars.
