A former WWE Superstar, Mustafa Ali, has spoken out about the backstage politics involving Brock Lesnar and Saudi Arabia during his tenure with the company from 2016 to 2023. Ali, who participated in WWE’s promotional tour in Saudi Arabia toward the end of his career, revealed that pressure from event organizers led to his inclusion at the Night of Champions event. This involvement sparked tension within WWE’s backstage environment.
During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ali described his experience as uncomfortable, suggesting that WWE might have used him to send a message through a controversial segment on Raw in 2023, which featured the infamous “Get a life, kid” exchange with Brock Lesnar.
“I didn’t know he was gonna say that. So when he said that and he walked off, there was this dead silence, because everyone that worked there, they knew what happened. They’re like, Oh, they’re trying to send a message, but it’s like, why does it have to be in my expense?” Ali said. – Mustafa Ali, Former WWE Superstar
Ali also indicated that the segment could have prompted Shawn Michaels to reach out to Triple H about collaborating with him. Shortly after returning to NXT, Ali was released from WWE a few months later. Despite the challenges, Ali made it clear he holds no resentment toward WWE, acknowledging he gave his best effort across different roles and styles but struggled to find a lasting place.
Brock Lesnar Lacks a Confirmed WrestleMania 42 Rival
As WrestleMania 42 approaches, Brock Lesnar remains one of the few WWE Superstars guaranteed a match, having issued an open challenge through Paul Heyman for any contender willing to face him at the event. Multiple names have emerged as potential opponents, with recent developments on Raw highlighting LA Knight as a leading candidate.
The storyline intensified when Paul Heyman was attacked by Seth Rollins and taken to the hospital, with LA Knight driving the ambulance. Earlier rumors in January suggested another possible challenger for Lesnar was The Megastar, though no official opponent has been announced yet.
What This Means for WWE and Its Future Events
The revelations shared by Mustafa Ali shed light on the complex and often uneasy political atmosphere behind the scenes at WWE, especially regarding major international events like those in Saudi Arabia. Brock Lesnar’s ongoing storylines and the mystery surrounding his WrestleMania 42 opponent continue to generate anticipation among fans. How these backstage dynamics influence match planning and talent usage could have a lasting impact on WWE’s direction moving forward.
