Bryan Danielson Hints at AEW Return but Only With Limits

Published:

Bryan Danielson remains open to the idea of returning to compete in All Elite Wrestling, but he has made it clear that any comeback would come with significant restrictions. In a recent interview with Wide World of Sports’ Liam O’Loughlin, Danielson acknowledged the possibility of stepping back into the ring, emphasizing that his approach would have to change given his current priorities.

“If I tried to do some of the things I did in my last year with AEW right now, I don’t think I’d be able to go back and hold my kids,”

Danielson stated.

“Anything that I would do moving forward has to be with that in mind, because that is now my No. 1 priority. Stay healthy, be at home and play with my kids and coach my son’s tee-ball team.”

At 44 years old, Danielson closed what many fans viewed as a farewell chapter last year, highlighted by capturing the AEW World Championship with a victory over Swerve Strickland at All In. He successfully defended the title before Jon Moxley defeated him at WrestleDream, in a contest that not only ended his reign but featured a severe post-match assault signaling Danielson’s move away from regular wrestling.

Shift from Active Competitor to AEW Commentary Role

Since stepping back from full-time competition, Danielson has made only occasional in-ring appearances. His main focus has transitioned to a commentary position, where AEW recently made him a permanent member of the broadcast team. Viewers have recognized a fresh perspective in his analysis, including candid critiques of current matches and wrestling styles.

Fan Expectations and the Impact of a Modified Return

The prospect of Bryan Danielson returning to AEW undoubtedly excites many fans who have followed his career closely. Yet, Danielson has also made clear that any future in-ring involvement would likely be more restrained than before, possibly limiting the high-impact style that earned his reputation. This moderated approach might risk altering the legacy that fans admire.

Although Danielson has voiced that he considered his wrestling career concluded, he has not ruled out a return entirely. His current preference appears to be balancing his treasured family life with his passion for wrestling, indicating that a full-time comeback is unlikely. Instead, he remains engaged with AEW from commentary quarters while leaving open the possibility of selectively participating in matches under careful conditions.
