Bryan Danielson Joins AEW Commentary, Legend Reacts

Published:

Bryan Danielson has transitioned smoothly to a new role as a commentator for AEW after an impressive wrestling career. Nearly a year after his last match at AEW WrestleDream in October 2024, where he dropped the AEW World Title to Jon Moxley, Danielson is now contributing his expertise from the broadcast desk.

Although Danielson initially hoped to continue wrestling part-time, persistent neck injuries have prevented him from stepping back into the ring. Instead, he has embraced his new responsibilities behind the scenes as an AEW advisor and consultant, while officially joining the Dynamite commentary team on the September 10th episode alongside Excalibur and Taz. This addition strengthens the commentary team’s credibility, given Danielson’s status as one of the most accomplished wrestlers of the past 25 years.

Taz Shares His Thoughts on Bryan Danielson’s Shift to Commentary

Wrestling veteran and current AEW manager and announcer Taz discussed Danielson’s move during an interview with the Going Ringside podcast. He expressed enthusiasm about working with Bryan and acknowledged the benefits of having two analysts on the commentary platform.

“I think it’s cool. I mean, I like Bryan. I respect Bryan and get along great with him. He’s got great insight. You know, some people say, ‘Well, wait a minute. Well, Taz is an analyst, so now we have another analyst in Bryan Danielson.’ That’s true, and it’s okay to have two analysts. I mean, it happens in mainstream sports all the time. I’m a big Mets fan, New York Mets fan. So you know, the announcement for the Mets is a three-man booth forever, a guy named Gary Cohen is a play-by-play guy, and Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez, two former great players, are both analysts. It’s okay to have two analysts, because we have different perspectives on what you’re seeing, the physicality go down in the ring.”

Taz drew parallels to sports broadcasting, illustrating how multiple analysts provide varied insights that enhance the viewing experience. His respect for Danielson’s knowledge and their strong working relationship set a positive tone for their collaboration on AEW Dynamite.

Building Chemistry Among AEW’s Commentary Team

Taz, with a deep history in wrestling commentary dating back to his days on SmackDown and TNA, addressed the challenge of integrating a new member into the booth. He highlighted the importance of time in developing a cohesive dynamic, especially within a three-person commentary team that includes Excalibur, himself, and now Danielson.

“So I’m happy that Danielson is part of the announced team with us, with Excalibur and myself, and I think it’s cool. So we just have to build some chemistry together. In broadcasting, you understand that it takes some time to get a load, as a unit, especially in a three-person booth, which can get a little tougher. So we just need a little time to kind of get our sea legs as a unit under us a little bit. We will, it’ll take a couple of weeks.”

Danielson’s debut on commentary also included a notable appearance at the AEW All Out pay-per-view held in Toronto on September 20th, further establishing his role as a broadcast voice. Taz’s comments emphasize the team’s commitment to refining their synergy to provide fans with insightful and engaging coverage.

Bryan Danielson’s Career Transition and Impact on AEW

Bryan Danielson has been a prominent figure in professional wrestling as a former AEW, WWE, and ROH World Champion. His transition from wrestler to commentator marks a significant new chapter, allowing him to remain influential within the industry while prioritizing his health. His presence on the AEW commentary team adds depth, given his technical knowledge and in-ring experience.

This shift is meaningful not only for AEW’s broadcast credibility but also for fans who admire Danielson’s passion and resilience.
