Charlotte Flair, who has already appeared in a WrestleMania main event, expressed her belief that women in WWE will headline WrestleMania again. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Flair shared that the opportunity for women to main event depends largely on storytelling rather than any fixed timeline.
The Importance of Storytelling in WrestleMania Main Events
When asked if women would ever main event WrestleMania once more, Flair explained that it could happen any year, depending on the quality of the narrative involved. She emphasized that the main event spot should be earned based on the strongest storylines, not simply assigned by gender.
“I think any given year the women can main event, it just depends on who has the best story,”
Flair said.
“I don’t think anyone should be given the main event spot just because they’re a man or a woman. I think it should be who has the best story.”
History of Women Headlining WrestleMania
Flair herself is no stranger to main-event status, having headlined WrestleMania 35 alongside Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey. This trio made history as part of the first women’s main event at WrestleMania. More recently, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair also held main event roles at WrestleMania 37. However, since then, no women have been featured in the main event, although the possibility remains open in upcoming shows.
Current WrestleMania 42 Main Event Setup
As WrestleMania 42 approaches, only one match is confirmed as a main event contender: a showdown between CM Punk and Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This match is scheduled to be a featured highlight of this year’s event, demonstrating the ongoing competition for headline status within WWE.
The Continued Evolution of Women’s Role in WrestleMania
Charlotte Flair’s perspective highlights the evolving landscape of WWE, where the focus on compelling storylines may open doors for women to resume headlining WrestleMania. With the legacy set by Flair, Lynch, Rousey, Banks, and Belair, fans can anticipate more opportunities for women to claim the spotlight on wrestling’s biggest stage.
