Chelsea Green Breaks Character to Praise WWE Star

Published:

Chelsea Green, currently holding the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship with Ethan Page, stepped out of her wrestling persona today to publicly praise WWE wrestler IYO SKY. The endorsement came after WWE shared an Instagram clip promoting the latest season of WWE Unreal, set to premiere on Netflix later this month.

In the video, IYO SKY discussed her aerial wrestling technique and expressed nervousness about a high-risk leap off the top of the cage during the WarGames match at Survivor Series 2023. Green responded directly in the comments, calling SKY her favorite wrestler.

“My fave wrestler,” Green wrote.

Recent Success and Upcoming Title Defense for IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley

Earlier this month, IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships from The Kabuki Warriors, made up of Asuka and Kairi Sane. The new tag team, now known as RHIYO, will defend their titles against Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez of The Judgment Day faction at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24.

Chelsea Green Reflects on Losing the Women’s United States Championship

On the January 2 episode of WWE SmackDown, Chelsea Green dropped the Women’s United States Championship to Giulia. Speaking candidly on TMZ’s Inside the Ring podcast, Green acknowledged both the intensity of the match and Giulia’s deserving victory.

“Full disclosure: I’m lucky to have hair left after that match. I was limping on both legs. It was definitely like a Japanese Strong Style match, and I’ve been to Japan! It was really rough, but at the end of the day, isn’t that what we want out of a champion? Although I think – look – I think I’m the greatest first, fourth, and final champion. However, I have to give it to Giulia, because she beat my a**,” said Green. [H/T: Wrestling Inc]

Green became the inaugural Women’s United States Champion by winning a tournament in December 2024. As a 34-year-old veteran, her next steps on SmackDown remain an intriguing prospect for fans and the promotion alike.

Implications for Chelsea Green and WWE’s Female Talent

Chelsea Green’s public admiration of IYO SKY highlights the respect shared among WWE’s female wrestlers, even as they compete on different platforms. Her recent loss to Giulia and ongoing championship history demonstrate the competitive landscape on SmackDown and beyond.

The upcoming title defense of RHIYO against Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez also signals exciting developments in the Women’s Tag Team division. With WWE Unreal’s new season poised to highlight stars like SKY, and SmackDown continuing to evolve its roster, the coming months could bring significant storylines and opportunities for these athletes.
