CM Punk Hails Seth Rollins as a Wrestling Legend of the Decade

CM Punk discussed the obstacles he encountered when he first joined WWE, emphasizing the company’s preference for wrestlers with a particular physical size and look that he did not possess. Speaking on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike podcast, Punk explained how he had to overcome skepticism about his background and appearance, carving a path for other wrestlers who shared his philosophy of betting on themselves.

Gosh, I’m conflicted when I talk about this stuff because then people will point and say, ‘oh, you’re egotistical, you’re this, you’re that.’ The truth of the matter is, the first guy through the wall gets bloodied. I was the first guy through the wall. Independent wrestling was looked down upon. It was the land of the giants. I have to (admit) the casual observer some pretty ridiculous tattoos, but like everything else, tattoos are subjective. I wasn’t supposed to make it as far as I did, but I would not be denied,

Punk said.

Supporting the Next Generation of Wrestlers

Punk highlighted his desire to lift others as he rose, stressing that he does not guard his own position by blocking newcomers. Instead, he aims to help wrestlers who, like him, do not conform to outdated physical standards succeed in the industry.

There are many more men and women……they bet on themselves, they believe in themselves, but they don’t have a look that fits a certain person’s idea of what a pro wrestler is. And that was definitely me. So being able to try to always reach down and pull up the next generation, or I’m not pulling the ladder up. I’m trying to help other people get here,

he added.

Recognition of Seth Rollins’ Impact and Career

Although CM Punk and Seth Rollins have a famously tense relationship, Punk acknowledged Rollins’ significant achievements. Rollins, formerly Tyler Black, made his name in Ring of Honor (ROH) and on the independent circuit before joining WWE in 2010. During his time in ROH, Rollins won the ROH World Championship and Tag Team Championship, proving himself a major talent long before his WWE debut.

I think Seth Rollins is a great example of that. He’s a guy that fit the same mold as I did. He didn’t have the size. You wouldn’t look at him and be like, oh yeah, he’s a world champion. And now he’s a multiple-time heavyweight champion. And one of the, it pains me to say it, but he’s one of the greatest superstars over the last 10, 12 years,

Punk stated.

Upcoming Matches at Elimination Chamber and Future Rivalries

CM Punk is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at the Elimination Chamber event in Chicago this Saturday. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins’ wife, Becky Lynch, will defend her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, adding tension between the couples. Looking ahead, Punk is preparing to face Roman Reigns, who chose him as his opponent for WrestleMania 42 after winning the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

The upcoming matches highlight the ongoing rivalries and alliances that shape the wrestling landscape, with key figures like Punk, Rollins, Lynch, and Reigns continuing to influence the sport’s direction and popularity.
