CM Punk shares meaning behind his family tattoo, giving fans insight into one of his most significant pieces of body art. The renowned professional wrestler discussed the personal story behind this ink during a recent appearance on WWE’s Tattooed series.

CM Punk Describes the Story and Meaning Behind His Family Tattoo

CM Punk, respected for his wrestling persona as the Second City Saint, has a long history with tattoos, each carrying its own significance. In his conversation on WWE’s Tattooed, Punk spoke about the process and meaning behind a tattoo placed behind his ear, describing it as the most painful one he has experienced. The design features a diamond, several stars, and the number 31.

According to the wrestler, the number 31 is deeply symbolic for his family. The entire Punk family, including his siblings and sisters, sports this tattoo, though each has chosen a different location for it. The tradition started with their father, whose jersey number—31—became a symbol for the family as a whole, now immortalized through shared ink.

“The one behind my ear, which really technically is on my skull, was next level [painful]. But it’s small enough to where I was like, I can survive this. The top three most meaningful tattoos that I have that are near and dear to me. It represents my family. Every sibling has a color, and the family number is 31. The number was just  dad’s jersey number which was adopted by everybody. So, the little sisters play softball, soccer. They all were so moved they went out and got the same tattoo. So, we all have it. Just in different areas,”
