CM Punk Unsure About Retirement Tour, Not Done Yet

CM Punk has expressed uncertainty about whether he will organize a retirement tour when he eventually ends his wrestling career, emphasizing that such an event is not imminent. As he approaches 50 years of age, speculation has increased about the length of his remaining career. The concept of a retirement tour has gained popularity, especially in Japan, where legends like Muta have marked their farewells with extensive tours. Western wrestlers such as John Cena have adopted this tradition, drawing praise for the approach.

Punk Comments on the Popularity of Retirement Tours

During an interview on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Punk acknowledged the significance of retirement tours in Japanese wrestling culture, noting the scale and impact of such events. He highlighted Cena’s recent retirement tour as an impressive example of presenting a final opportunity for fans to witness a wrestler in action. Despite recognizing this, Punk admitted uncertainty about whether he would follow a similar path, stating,

“I really don’t know. I think it’s big in Japanese culture – Japanese wrestling, the retirement tour… like when Muta retired, they did it. They were just like, ‘Here’s a big dome show, here’s all these shows.’ They’ve done that over there for many, many years. It was just new to Western wrestling fans. So Cena did it, and I thought it was brilliant. [To] say, ‘This is the last time you’re going to get to come see me, you get to see me put my boots on and wrestle or appear.’ With me? I really don’t know,”

Punk said.

Why CM Punk Feels He’s Not Ready to Retire

When questioned about his readiness to retire, Punk revealed mixed feelings, emphasizing that he does not anticipate stepping away from wrestling soon. He spoke about his desire to keep future plans mysterious and maintain his physical condition while continuing to perform at a high level.

“I almost don’t like talking about it because I don’t think it’s going to be anytime soon. And the way our business is, I like to keep some things shrouded in secrecy and mystery. So we’ll have to wait and see. I’m just trying to keep myself in one piece because I think I’m on the run of my life and doing the best work I’ve ever done. Why would I want to step away now?”

Punk explained.

The Role of Retirement Tours in Wrestling’s Future

Retirement tours have become a notable trend in professional wrestling, linking cultures across Japan and the West while offering fans a chance to celebrate the careers of their favorite superstars. CM Punk’s hesitation to commit to such a tour highlights the complexity of retirement decisions in the industry, where wrestlers balance legacy, physical demands, and fan expectations. As Punk continues to deliver some of his best performances, the wrestling world remains attentive to when and how he might decide to close this chapter.
