Cody Rhodes, former Undisputed WWE Champion, is widely recognized not only for his wrestling skills but also for his polished demeanor and patriotic image, which includes his neck tattoo, ring attire, and entrance style. In a recent interview on Grave Conversations, Rhodes disclosed that as a child he harbored ambitions beyond wrestling, specifically aiming for a career in politics. He attributed this early interest to his father, Dusty Rhodes, who loved political theater even if he wasn’t drawn to politics itself.
Imagining a Future in the White House
Rhodes shared details about how he would practice presidential speeches in front of a mirror, envisioning himself delivering formal addresses as if running for office. He recalled asking his imaginary children if they wanted to live in the White House, a speech he rehearsed consistently until adulthood. Speaking openly about this, he said,
“I grew up wanting to be two things. One was a pro wrestler, and the other… I wanted to be the president of the United States,”
Cody Rhodes explained.
“Part of my weird presidential speech that I used to give myself in the mirror was, I would ask, and this is something I did as a kid… I’d ask my fictional children at the time, ‘Do you want to live in the White House?’ During my Democratic nomination… Blue tie and all that… I thought so hard about this because I used to give this fake speech in the mirror like a complete sociopath. I’d ask them, ‘Do you want to live in the White House, sweetie?’ I assumed they were both going to be girls, which in turn, I got two girls.”
Reconciling Childhood Dreams and Present Reality
Rhodes described these political ambitions as a “terrifying secret” that he carried into his late teens by continuously practicing these speeches with his fictional daughters. Although he has yet to pursue a political path publicly, his current focus remains on his wrestling career. At present, Rhodes is engaged in the lead-up to WrestleMania, where he seems destined to face Drew McIntyre and potentially align with Jacob Fatu, aiming to reclaim the Undisputed WWE title.
The Significance of Rhodes’s Past Aspirations
Cody Rhodes’s reflections reveal a complex and somewhat uneasy relationship with his youthful dreams of political leadership, contrasting sharply with his current role as a top wrestling persona. His early fascination with the presidency underscores the blend of performance and personal ambition that shapes his public identity. Fans and observers might wonder if his political interests could resurface in the future, or if wrestling will continue to be his primary arena for influence and leadership.
