Cody Rhodes WWE Absence Explained: Paternity Leave and Hollywood Role Reveal

Published:

The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, has been off WWE television since the SmackDown episode following SummerSlam, where he claimed a clean victory over John Cena to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. Shortly after SummerSlam, Drew McIntyre launched a brutal attack on Rhodes, leaving him incapacitated and forcing WWE to write him off TV temporarily. This move sparked confusion among fans, some of whom speculated that Rhodes had quit the company.

Contrary to such rumors, Rhodes has not left WWE. His absence is due to a mix of personal and professional reasons. Most importantly, he has been on paternity leave after welcoming his and Brandi Rhodes’ second child. Alongside this, Cody has been busy filming a Hollywood project titled The Street Fighter, which also stars Roman Reigns, adding to fans’ anticipation. These combined factors explain why he has remained absent from WWE programming lately.

Anticipation Builds for Cody Rhodes’ WWE Return

Recently, WWE executive Triple H revealed a major spoiler regarding Cody Rhodes’ comeback. The Game announced that the Undisputed WWE Champion is scheduled to return next week at Wrestlepalooza, stirring excitement and discussion online. With his return imminent, audiences are eager to see what storyline direction WWE will take with Rhodes, especially after this extended break.

Insights on Cody Rhodes’ AEW Career and Transition to WWE

Cody Rhodes played a pivotal role in establishing All Elite Wrestling (AEW), working alongside Tony Khan and other executives to build a competitive alternative to WWE. Despite his significant contributions, Rhodes reportedly felt underappreciated during his time with AEW. Discussing this on The Wrestling Time Machine, veteran journalist Bill Apter highlighted that Rhodes’ decision to leave AEW stemmed from a lack of credit and opportunities in the company.

“He was one of the people that started that company, and little by little, according to him, he felt like he wasn’t being credited with what was going on. I don’t think they put him in programmes that he may have wanted to be in. And I think his heart always was to show Vince McMahon when he left, when Cody left, that I can be better than what you’re doing with me.” Apter said.

While his chapter in AEW has closed, it remains to be seen whether Rhodes will revisit his time there in future interviews or storylines.
