Cody Rhodes Denies Planned WWE SummerSlam Swerve Despite Rumors of Double Turn

Published:

Cody Rhodes recently reclaimed the Undisputed WWE Championship by defeating John Cena at SummerSlam, fueling excitement around his and Cena’s characters. Amid intense Cody Rhodes WWE SummerSlam news, he dismissed rumors about a planned double turn during the event, clarifying that such a shift was never concretely discussed with him.

Leading up to the championship match, John Cena began to display hints of a possible babyface turn, which had already started before the SmackDown episode prior to SummerSlam. Conversely, Rhodes revealed a more ruthless persona by defeating Randy Orton in the King of the Ring final, which prompted fans to speculate a double turn might take place during WWE’s major summer event.

In an interview on SI Media With Jimmy Traina, Rhodes addressed the circulating theory. He expressed confusion over the actual meaning of the term “double turn,” suggesting many use it incorrectly and that no one had convincingly explained it to him.

“I just did an interview with Unreal, and I kept hearing the phrase ‘double turn.’ Double turn is a little more complicated than people think. It shouldn’t be. I have a bounty out if one person can actually tell me what that means. They’re going to say the thing that sounds the most simple, and that’s not what a double turn is. I’m not going to get into it,” Cody said.

He also mentioned that if turning heel had ever been proposed for him, the conversation never progressed far enough to reach him personally.

“If [me turning] was discussed, it didn’t go far. I don’t think it got to me, by any means, because I would have some ideas on how I would execute it and what would happen,” Cody added.

Recent On-Screen Conflicts After Championship Win

Shortly after capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship from John Cena, Cody Rhodes teamed up with Cena on SmackDown to face Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre in a traditional tag team match. During the bout, the match ended in disqualification when The Maverick struck Cena with a low blow, leading to a post-match altercation.

Backstage and near ringside, tensions escalated as Drew McIntyre attacked Rhodes using the Undisputed WWE Championship belt followed by a Claymore Kick. This development raises questions about future matchups, especially since Cena and Logan Paul are already booked for a singles match at WWE Clash in Paris.

It remains uncertain whether Rhodes and McIntyre will confront each other in the ring during the upcoming premium live event, adding to the anticipation surrounding the ongoing storylines in WWE.

Implications for WWE Storylines Moving Forward

Cody Rhodes’ denial of a planned double turn highlights ongoing ambiguity in WWE’s creative direction after SummerSlam, with fans eager for clarity on character alignments. His championship victory over Cena marks a critical moment, but subsequent backstage tensions suggest that future rivalries will intensify, particularly involving Drew McIntyre.

This unfolding drama will likely shape major WWE events in the coming months, keeping viewers engaged as they watch for how these feuds evolve and whether unexpected twists might still emerge in the build-up to Clash in Paris and beyond.
