Dominik Mysterio Shocks Fans with Challenger Announcement

WWE Superstar Dominik Mysterio surprised fans by making an unforeseen appearance to announce his next opponent for one of his championships. The announcement took place during the January 31 edition of Lucha Libre: AAA, where Mysterio declared he will defend the AAA Mega Championship next month against El Hijo del Vikingo.

During the show, Mysterio interrupted El Hijo del Vikingo, who was in the ring alongside his stablemates in El Ojo and AAA Director General Dorian Roldán, as well as Omos. The 28-year-old WWE RAW star congratulated Vikingo on securing the number one contendership for the Mega Championship, while also taking aim at El Ojo by labeling its members as cowards.

“Congratulations, Vikingo, because you are my new challenger. Your Mega Champion! But truthfully, I want to congratulate you because it seems like you have a new family. And never in my life have I seen so many cowards in one ring, but here we are. And for the last time, I want to congratulate you because at Rey de Reyes, you’ll be in the main event thanks to me, Dominik Mysterio, facing me for my Mega Championship,” Mysterio said.

Setting the Stage for an Intense Championship Battle in Puebla

Dominik Mysterio emphasized that the upcoming match at Rey de Reyes would take place in Puebla, which is El Hijo del Vikingo’s hometown. Despite the location favoring Vikingo, Mysterio expressed confidence that the local fans would turn against the challenger and reaffirmed his dominance in the ring.

“And not only that, but we’ll be in your hometown of Puebla at Rey de Reyes, and it doesn’t matter if you’re coming or going from the arena. Believe me, the people of Puebla will butcher you because you don’t belong, and I am the King. So, Vikingo, I’ll see you in Puebla because it’ll be the last time I humiliate you, and it’ll be the last time you’ll be in the ring with me. At Rey de Reyes, we’ll once again crown the King of Luchadors, Dirty Dominik Mysterio,” he added.

This confrontation marks what Mysterio predicts will be their final encounter, promising a climactic battle where the title and personal pride will be on the line.

Dominik Mysterio’s Current Injury and Status Update

Although Dominik Mysterio recently issued this challenge, he is currently sidelined due to a shoulder injury sustained during Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s Guerra de Titanes event on December 20, 2025. While teaming with El Grande Americano against Rey Mysterio and Rey Fenix, Mysterio suffered the injury after taking a DDT from the Master of the 619, affecting his ability to compete.

Liv Morgan Shares Insight into Mysterio’s Condition and Prospects

Following Liv Morgan’s victory in the Women’s Royal Rumble Match, which secured her a title shot at WrestleMania 42, she offered an update on Dominik Mysterio’s health during an interview on the Royal Rumble Recap podcast hosted by Sam Roberts and Megan Morant. Morgan revealed she recently spoke with Mysterio and reported that the Intercontinental Champion is recovering well and supportive of her success.

Despite his current absence from active competition, the timing of Dominik Mysterio’s comeback remains uncertain, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his eventual return to WWE programming and the resumption of high-stakes matches like the one set for Rey de Reyes.
