Dominik Mysterio, currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion, shared a painful experience from his childhood during the SummerSlam weekend interview with Graham Matthews of Bleacher Report. Reflecting on the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut during the iconic Custody of Dominik storyline, Mysterio revealed that his parents took the $5,000 paycheck he earned for that event without his knowledge.
Details on the Missing Earnings and Its Impact
Although Dominik received the payment for his role in the ladder match between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio at SummerSlam 2005, he says he never actually got to keep the money. Instead, he was given a $200 bike while his parents claimed the remainder was saved. He stated,
“Yes, my parents, they stole that money from me when I was a kid. They said it was saved. I bought a $200 bike,”
and added,
“I got paid five grand, I bought a $200 bike, and they said it’s done. They’re like, ‘Oh, your money’s gone.’”
Dominik also uncovered more about how the money was used without his consent.
“But I just recently found out in an interview about my deadbeat dad that he apparently used that money as a down payment for one of my cars when I was a kid,”
he explained.
“Which was — can I cuss on here? It was bullshit, because that was mine! I worked for that, [Rey] didn’t go and bump, he didn’t do any of that.”
Reflections on Past Grudges and Current Perspectives
In addition to his feelings about his parents, Dominik admitted holding a grudge against fellow wrestler The Miz, who once claimed Dominik as his favorite wrestler. Now a grown man, Dominik acknowledges The Miz is indeed his favorite, though he regrets the tension they faced in the past. This revelation adds another layer to the complex emotions Dominik carries from his early years in WWE.

This disclosure sheds light on the challenges Dominik Mysterio faced behind the scenes as a young talent navigating both family dynamics and professional wrestling. The stolen WWE paycheck incident emphasizes the personal hardships that contributed to his development as a wrestler and individual.
