Dominik Mysterio Breaks Silence After Shocking TripleMania Loss in Controversial AAA Mega Title Match

Published:

Dominik Mysterio addressed fans for the first time after his surprising loss in the AAA Mega Championship main event at TripleMania XXXIII on Saturday in Mexico City. Despite being close to victory, Mysterio was denied the title when AJ Styles interfered, helping El Hijo de Vikingo retain the championship in the four-way match.

The event took place inside Arena CDMX, where the main bout featured Dominik Mysterio, El Hijo de Vikingo, El Grande Americano, and Dragon Lee competing for the prestigious AAA Mega Championship. Mysterio appeared moments from winning before Styles’ unexpected involvement shifted the match’s outcome in favor of Vikingo.

The Dramatic Finish and Fan Reaction at Arena CDMX

During the climax of the contest, AJ Styles delivered his signature Styles Clash on Dominik Mysterio. This allowed Vikingo to capitalize, landing a 630 senton to secure the win. The reaction from the Mexico City crowd was hostile, as fans loudly booed the defending champion following the finish, expressing their disapproval of the controversial interference.

Following the event, Dominik used Instagram to share photos and videos from the match, expressing his frustration by describing the result as a “highway robbery.”

Prior to the match, Dominik was seen as the frontrunner to capture the AAA Mega Championship. Reports indicated that the promotion was debating between him and El Grande Americano, but ultimately chose to have El Hijo del Vikingo retain the belt.

Dominik Mysterio Reflects on His Character and Fan Response

After receiving a positive fan reaction at WrestleMania 41 when he won the Intercontinental Championship, Dominik discussed the possibility of a character change during an interview with Graham Matthews of Bleacher Report. The wrestler explained he generally responds to the crowd’s treatment of him, which can vary widely.

“I react to what’s being given to me. As of now, they’ve been booing me, but every now and then, they’ll chant that Dirty Dom song, and that Dirty Dom song for one way or another, it gets a crack out of me and I tend to break and smile because it’s funny hearing everybody singing it together because I’ve been getting booed for years. I don’t know if I’ll ever embrace it because I haven’t changed anything about myself, I’ve just been Dirty Dom all the way. So, the fact that the people still love it, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see,” Dominik said.

Although the WrestleMania crowd cheered him genuinely, he continues to receive boos during WWE RAW shows, especially amid his ongoing storyline rivalry with AJ Styles over the Intercontinental Championship.
