Once dubbed “The Chosen One,” Drew McIntyre‘s early WWE career promised great success that didn’t immediately materialize. Reflecting on the current WWE environment, McIntyre expresses optimism for Trick Williams, a young talent who recently joined WWE’s main roster. McIntyre believes the foundation for Williams’s success is already solid, signaling a more positive trajectory than his own early career.
McIntyre Highlights Williams’s Potential and Charisma
In an interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring, McIntyre identified Trick Williams as a talent reminiscent of his younger self.
“Maybe coming up right now that I’ve at least got to see enough of, maybe Trick,”
McIntyre said.
“He’s certainly got the great look, the charisma, and the ability from what I can see. It’s just what you do when you get given the ball because I got given the ball to the highest level when I was younger and I wasn’t able to quite maximize it. I had to take the long way around.”
McIntyre further expressed hope for Williams’s future, stating,
“Hopefully Trick takes that opportunity and absolutely smashes it. Basically what I’m saying is young, jacked, and handsome just like I was. He’s going to get some opportunities.”
Williams’s Recent Transition to WWE Main Roster
In December 2025, Trick Williams secured a spot on WWE’s main roster and was assigned to WWE SmackDown. Recently on SmackDown, McIntyre took pride in the intense competition for spots in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match across both SmackDown and WWE Raw rosters. The winner of this match will earn a title shot against McIntyre himself. During this period, Williams issued a caution to McIntyre regarding the future of WWE, hinting that he himself is a significant part of that future. Though both wrestlers have interacted verbally, they have yet to face each other in an official match.
Implications for WWE’s Next Generation
Drew McIntyre’s endorsement of Trick Williams underscores a hopeful shift for WWE’s emerging talents. With Williams poised as a rising star on SmackDown, his trajectory could pave the way for a new chapter in WWE’s competitive landscape. Fans and industry insiders alike will be watching closely as Williams aims to capitalize on early opportunities and potentially challenge established stars, including McIntyre himself.
