Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre openly criticized the physical condition of many current WWE Superstars during a recent discussion on Impaulsive with Logan Paul, expressing concern about how the roster appears ahead of WWE’s significant transition to Netflix. McIntyre argued that with the company’s growing global exposure, many performers fail to project the image that a mainstream audience expects.
McIntyre Condemns the Current Fitness Levels of WWE Wrestlers
McIntyre harshly described a large portion of the WWE roster as not meeting the physical standards needed to succeed on major platforms like Netflix. He stated bluntly,
“These days, no offense, but 85% of our guys don’t look like they should be in WWE—on Netflix and stuff.”
According to him, this detachment between appearance and expectation affects how casual viewers connect with the product.
During the conversation, McIntyre made a pointed comparison, saying some wrestlers look like they “should be serving me McDonald’s,” reinforcing his frustration with the roster’s overall presentation. He recounted,
“My buddies contact me and go, ‘Yo, I turned on wrestling to see what you’re up to… Logan Paul’s on there and he’s killing it. Roman Reigns, what a freaking star.’ Then there are these other guys that look like they should be serving me McDonald’s or whatever… and I’m like, ‘I could kick their ass.’”
McIntyre emphasized the importance of physical presence in capturing fan interest quickly, especially in today’s environment flooded with entertainment options. He explained,
“It takes me out of it. I’m like, yeah, they’re good at wrestling. Eventually, you’ll connect with them, but I’m not gonna watch long enough. It’s like, Jesus, guys—get in the freaking gym. At least get something that grabs your attention.”
He praised Logan Paul and Roman Reigns as examples of talent who possess the charisma and stature necessary to draw viewers immediately.
“Roman Reigns… what a freaking star. Comes on the screen, comes right off the screen. You [Logan Paul] are a freaking giant. That’s what people expect when they tune into WWE,”
McIntyre remarked, setting the bar for the roster’s presentation.
Drew McIntyre’s Personal Commitment to Physical Improvement
Along with his critique of others, McIntyre disclosed his own efforts to enhance his fitness and mindset. For the first time in his career, he is collaborating with a personal trainer and nutritionist, demonstrating a serious approach to his development. He shared,
“I’ve gained 15 pounds in five weeks on a 6,000-calorie-a-day diet. I’ve never taken it this seriously before.”
With WWE preparing for SummerSlam and entering a new chapter on Netflix, McIntyre’s outspoken remarks are likely to ignite discussions within the wrestling community. His call for an elevated standard of athleticism underscores the pressure on WWE Superstars to meet the expectations of a broadening audience.
