Earthquakes Unleash Soccer Dreams: San Jose Fairgrounds to Spark a Soccer Revolution

Earthquakes Unleash Soccer Dreams: The San Jose Earthquakes, in collaboration with Santa Clara County and the city, have unveiled plans for a soccer field complex at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. This tripartite agreement aims to transform approximately 26 acres into an eight-field facility, marking a significant step toward the site’s revitalization.

Supervisor Cindy Chavez expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s like Christmas came early.” The Earthquakes plan to allocate $50 million for the project, with four fields dedicated to the club’s practice facility and a professional training center. The remaining space will house four public artificial turf soccer fields, envisioned as “world-class” facilities.

The Earthquakes’ President, Jared Shawlee, sees the project as a catalyst for broader community redevelopment, emphasizing its central location in San Jose. Mayor Matt Mahan highlighted the city’s shortage of soccer fields, stating that the fairgrounds’ addition will be transformative for residents, especially children.

With the Earthquakes leading MLS in nurturing homegrown talent, the new fields are expected to support local player development. The agreement, in the works for nearly three years, is a key part of the fairgrounds’ multifaceted revitalization plan. While details are still pending, the collective confidence suggests swift progress towards opening the facilities, potentially before the 2026 World Cup.
