Father Charged in Tragic Death: A man in San Jose is facing charges for the tragic death of his 3-month-old daughter. The baby was found deceased in an apartment with drugs in May. The autopsy revealed that the baby passed away due to ingesting methamphetamine and fentanyl.
David Anthony Castro, 38, is now charged with child neglect and drug possession. His court appearance is set for Monday in San Jose, and he could go to prison if found guilty.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen expressed his disbelief at how a parent could cause the death of their own child through reckless actions. However, he emphasized the responsibility of holding the person accountable for this heartbreaking incident.
In May, police found the baby unconscious in a San Jose home. They discovered drug-related items like broken glass pipes, aluminum foil, and the opioid fentanyl in the apartment’s kitchen. There was even a baby bottle next to these drug-related materials. The police also found Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses.
Tragically, the baby’s mother was not at home when the child passed away, and she herself succumbed to an overdose just last month.
In a similar case that received worldwide attention, a daycare operator and another individual are facing federal charges after a 1-year-old child fatally overdosed in a New York City nursery. Authorities found the powerful opioid fentanyl in the room where the baby was napping.
