Frank Fiscalini: In a heartfelt tribute to a beloved community leader, Frank Fiscalini, a devoted family man and influential figure in San Jose, passed away at the age of 101. Known for his unwavering commitment to education, public service, and community development, Fiscalini’s impact stretched across generations.
Fiscalini, on leave from Santa Clara University to participate in World War II, was born in San Bernardino to Northern Italian immigrants. He earned a master’s from Stanford University and a PhD from the University of Northern Colorado after his military duty.
Fiscalini’s education legacy began in 1956 as East Side Union High School District superintendent. Known as the “Godfather of East Side politics,” he helped open 10 additional schools before retiring in 1982.
Beyond education, Fiscalini served as the CEO of the Alexian Brothers hospital system and spearheaded the restoration of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in downtown San Jose. His contributions extended to the political arena, serving on the San Jose City Council after an impressive mayoral run in 1990.
A man of faith and a dedicated community servant, Fiscalini’s impact went beyond politics. He was a founding board member of Opera San Jose and actively supported various arts and education initiatives in the city.
Frank Fiscalini’s passing leaves a void in the community, but his legacy of family, faith, and selfless service will be remembered by all who were touched by his kindness. As his family celebrates his life with a holiday cookie decorating party, they honor a tradition started by Frank and his late wife, Joan.
In accordance with Fiscalini’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held, with plans for a larger memorial to allow others to pay their respects in the coming year.
