Frozen Feats Skier Icy Ordeal: Swedish cross-country skier Calle Halfvarsson faced an icy aftermath in Finland’s frigid temperatures during the 20-kilometer World Cup event in Ruka. The bone-chilling five degrees Fahrenheit led to an uncomfortable consequence – a frozen penis.
In candid remarks to Expressen, Halfvarsson shared his ordeal, recounting the need to seek warmth in the athletes’ tent for 10 minutes. Despite the pain, the 34-year-old, having experienced a similar situation before, found humor in the situation, quipping about the challenges ahead as he’s set to become a father again.
The race itself saw Norwegian Jan Thomas Jenssen clinching victory, with Czech Republic’s Michel Novák and teammate Harald Østberg Amundsen rounding out the podium. Halfvarsson, undeterred by the frosty setback, finished as the first Swede in 18th place.
Cross-country skiers, clad in skin-tight suits, are particularly susceptible to extremities feeling the chill. This isn’t the first instance of frozen appendages in the sport, as evidenced by Finland’s Remi Leindholm at the 2022 Winter Olympics and Halfvarsson’s previous encounter in Ruka.
Describing the sensation, Halfvarsson offered a straightforward tip: “Stay away from it, because it is the worst thing you can experience.” The humorous recounting of a chilly mishap adds a lighthearted touch to the serious world of competitive skiing, proving that even in freezing temperatures, laughter can thaw the coldest moments.
