GOP Hopefuls Converge in Conservative Iowa: Four Republican presidential candidates, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Ambassador Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and Texas pastor Ryan Binkley, are set to participate in a forum organized by GOP Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa.
The event, titled “Faith and Family with the Feenstras,” will provide each candidate with an opportunity to share their message and vision for the country at Dordt University in Sioux Center. With less than six weeks before the January 15 GOP caucuses, the candidates aim to make an impression on Iowa caucusgoers in this conservative corner of western Iowa.
The event follows the recent contentious fourth GOP primary debate in Alabama, where DeSantis and Ramaswamy targeted Haley on immigration, her record on China, and foreign policy. Sioux County, known for its Trump support, will host the candidates.
The presidential candidates must cut into Trump’s huge advantage in state and national surveys. The debate without Trump allowed candidates to deliver their messages, and Saturday’s event lets voters compare them.
Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who campaigns in New Hampshire, are also absent. Rep. Feenstra, elected to Iowa’s 4th Congressional District in 2020, emphasized the need for a president who understands values, supports families, defends faith, and restores American prosperity. The candidates are expected to host additional events in Iowa over the weekend, engaging with voters and further solidifying their positions ahead of the caucuses.
