John Cena Surprises Fans by Calling Logan Paul Underrated and Predicting WWE Glory Ahead

Published:

John Cena, one of WWE’s all-time greats, is in the midst of a notable retirement year with several high-profile matches remaining, including one against Logan Paul. As Cena’s in-ring career approaches its conclusion, he recently surprised fans and the wrestling community by praising Logan Paul’s abilities, highlighting the social media star’s growth within WWE despite mixed public opinion.

The two will face off in their first-ever singles match at WWE Clash In Paris on August 31, following a series of encounters during Cena’s farewell tour. Their history includes a tag team match on the August 8 episode of SmackDown, where Cena and Cody Rhodes defeated Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre by disqualification after their brief alliance fell apart.

At FAN EXPO Chicago, Cena responded candidly to a fan question about Paul’s toughness amid a crowd that openly expressed dislike for Paul. Cena joked about Paul’s family being in attendance before offering unexpected respect for Logan’s wrestling skills.

Man, do you think this audience likes Logan Paul? I don’t know if you’re gonna like my answer, but I’ve always been one of those guys that you don’t necessarily… you don’t have to like, you can hate, but I like to think I’ve earned people’s respect, so what I’m about to say might not be the answer you’re looking for, but hopefully you’ll respect it. Do I think Logan Paul can beat me up? Yes. I think he’s got a very good chance of beating me up, because he’s really good at WWE,” John Cena said.

Cena Recognizes Logan Paul as an Underrated Competitor with Championship Potential

Continuing his frank discussion at FAN EXPO Chicago, Cena addressed a fan’s claim that Logan Paul is overrated. Cena strongly disagreed, labeling Paul as underrated and affirming that he rightfully belongs in WWE. He emphasized that Paul’s future in the company is bright, predicting that championship opportunities lie ahead for the influencer-turned-wrestler.

Cena also reflected on his own motivation, crediting Cody Rhodes for reigniting his competitive spirit after their match at SummerSlam. He acknowledged the challenge Paul presents and made it clear he is preparing rigorously for their encounter.

And I know there’s not a lot of people, in this room that likes him, he is not a likeable guy…

[Fan: He’s overrated!]

I disagree. I disagree, I think he’s underrated. I think he gets a bad rep, he’s not an outsider, he belongs in the WWE. I think his best days are ahead of him, he’s got championships in his future. I can tell you that I’m not looking past Logan Paul, and I’m not believing any of the hype that he’s this outsider, and he should be taken lightly… I’m training hard, Cody Rhodes brought out the best in me at SummerSlam. He reignited the fire in me, and I know I have a very, very tough opponent in Logan Paul. So, do I think he can beat me up? Yes. Will he have to earn every inch? Absolutely.

The Growing Rivalry Between John Cena and Logan Paul in WWE

John Cena and Logan Paul’s WWE storyline has developed throughout 2025, with their first face-off occurring during the Royal Rumble. They also clashed in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match, which Cena won and used to secure a title shot at WrestleMania 41. Their on-screen alliance led to a tag team loss at Money In the Bank against Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, further intensifying their rivalry.

As Cena prepares for what may be his final matches, his acknowledgment of Logan Paul’s wrestling abilities adds an intriguing layer to their upcoming battle, stirring anticipation among fans and WWE insiders alike.
