Kota Ibushi Extends AEW Contract Through 2027 Ahead of Major Forbidden Door Return

Published:

Kota Ibushi has officially extended his contract with All Elite Wrestling, securing his presence in the promotion until 2027. This announcement comes as the Japanese star prepares for a highly anticipated return to the AEW and NJPW joint event, Forbidden Door, in London on August 24.

Known as the inaugural IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Ibushi initially joined AEW in late 2023 but has appeared only sporadically due to injuries and visa complications. After being absent for more than eighteen months, the “Golden Star” is poised to make a strong comeback this summer.

Details of Ibushi’s Return and Contract Extension

Ibushi revealed his new two-year contract with AEW on Instagram, expressing a mix of determination and reflection. Despite acknowledging the challenges and uncertainties ahead, he committed to continue wrestling, driven by the dream he has cherished since childhood. His post highlighted both the pressures and passion that motivate him in this phase of his career.

This was incredible! A turning point in my life. I never thought I’d get to ride in a private jet! And I signed a two-year contract renewal. I still want to live, but I have no choice but to live. I can’t imagine myself still wrestling at 45. What else do I want? I don’t know. I have a dream to live and live this kind of pro wrestling! Back in the day when I was little. Just not just good 99% hell you won’t get there. How tough that 99% hell is was far above imagination. From training and daily living. Just don’t look down. Up the top. Still not enough not like this!!

His participation in the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event sets the stage for renewed momentum in his career and adds star power to the collaborative show in London. For AEW, retaining Ibushi until 2027 ensures the promotion maintains a top-tier talent connected to its expanding global partnerships.
