Nia Jax Opens Up on Her Role as WWE Locker Room Leader

Nia Jax is approaching the milestone of 11 years since her wrestling debut, which began with tag team matches at WWE NXT live events. Currently, she competes again in tag team action alongside Lash Legend, a rising WWE star. Jax recently shared on Insight With Chris Van Vliet that she has taken on the role of a locker room leader within WWE, guiding newer talent behind the scenes.

Taking on Responsibility as an Experienced Locker Room Veteran

Jax explained her leadership role stems from her seniority and longevity in WWE.

“Since I’ve come back, I have taken on the role of a little bit of the locker room leader just because I’ve been here longer than most of the girls in the locker room, I’m older, I’ve been around, I’ve seen it all,”

she stated. She emphasized the importance of maintaining locker room traditions that she feels are fading in the current era of wrestling.

Reflecting on the lessons from her early career, Jax noted,

“Some of the new people, they didn’t come up when I came up. My coach was Bill DeMott when I got hired for the WWE. He was very old school, very traditional in the ways. Shake hands, you introduce yourself to everybody, you guys set up the ring, you break down the ring, you watch every match. We never had the opportunity to not go to a show even if we weren’t working.”

Mentoring New Talent and Embracing Her Leadership Role

Beyond wrestling, Jax learned vital backstage tasks such as ring announcing and timekeeping early in her career, experiences few younger wrestlers now are expected to perform. Because of this shift, she has taken it upon herself to teach these skills to WWE’s developing stars. Jax credits her Type A personality for helping her grow more comfortable in this mentoring capacity over time.

Recent Return and Current Position in WWE

After a nearly two-year hiatus, Nia Jax returned to WWE in September 2023 and is currently assigned to the WWE SmackDown brand. Her role as a locker room leader signifies her influence extending beyond the ring as she helps shape the next generation of talent.

Understanding the Importance of Leadership in WWE’s Locker Room Culture

Nia Jax’s experience and dedication highlight the ongoing need to preserve traditions and instill a strong work ethic among newer wrestlers. As the WWE locker room continues to evolve, having seasoned veterans like Jax serving as leaders helps maintain a cohesive environment that supports growth and respect among performers. Her involvement promises to impact the locker room culture positively as WWE moves forward.
