Rey Mysterio, still active and thriving as a professional wrestler, has indicated a potential interest in a behind-the-scenes role within Lucha Libre AAA. The 51-year-old star shared his thoughts about future possibilities during an appearance on Cody Rhodes‘ podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About?, highlighting both his ongoing passion for wrestling and openness to new challenges connected to AAA.
Reflecting on Career Milestones and Family Legacy
Mysterio revealed that reaching the WWE Hall of Fame, which many would see as a capstone achievement, came while he was still actively competing. This milestone has shifted his outlook towards enjoying his remaining time in the ring, particularly alongside his son, Dominik. His hopes rest on witnessing Dominik’s rise and distinct path in the sport, a goal that has deep personal importance.
“I pretty much have seen more than I could imagine with the growth of Dom and his evolution here in the sport, and how he’s grown, and how he’s become his individual self, and the place that he’s carrying and taking the name to, which I always deep down inside thought that he would be bigger and better than me in a different way.”

He also shared an insight into his family’s perceptions of Dominik’s wrestling persona:
“And I guess this is the way, which is also funny because my wife said that if he ever wrestled, that she always saw him as a bad guy. And here is the bad guy that my wife obviously spent way more time with him than I did. I was always on the road, so I guess she saw a side of him that I am now seeing. Obviously, I didn’t know.”

Playing a Role in AAA’s Expansion Under WWE
With WWE’s acquisition of AAA, Mysterio expressed enthusiasm about potentially contributing to the promotion beyond his in-ring work. AAA holds great significance for him as the place where his career began and blossomed. He conveyed a desire to become involved in the operational side to help AAA expand and evolve.

“But overall, I think it might be fun to help with the acquisition with AAA and be involved as much as I can with that,”
he said, adding,
“And kind of start learning on how to work on the production side or how I can invest my time to eventually help AAA grow. Knowing that that was my house, my very first house or my home from day one. And from there, it all started. Everything flourished from AAA. But I’m still enjoying the moment.”

Dominik’s Rising Status in AAA and WWE
Dominik Mysterio currently holds the prestigious Mega Championship in AAA while also reigning as the WWE Intercontinental Champion. The father-son duo recently faced each other in a tag team match in December 2025 at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event, illustrating their shared prominence within the industry and the unique legacy they continue to build together.
Looking Ahead: Impact on Wrestling and AAA’s Future
Rey Mysterio’s potential shift into a leadership or production role within AAA could signal a meaningful chapter for the organization’s growth under WWE’s umbrella. His firsthand experience, combined with a personal connection to the company’s roots, positions him well to influence both its creative direction and operational development. As he balances enjoying his remaining matches in the ring with preparing for life beyond wrestling, Mysterio’s involvement with AAA remains a hopeful prospect for fans and the wrestling community alike.
