Drew McIntyre Still Chasing First Pinfall Over Roman Reigns in Ongoing WWE Rivalry

Published:

The Roman Reigns undefeated rivalry with Drew McIntyre remains a central storyline in WWE, as the Scottish wrestler continues to seek his first pinfall victory against the dominant Tribal Chief. Their ongoing feud has become one of the most notable in recent years, highlighted by major event showdowns and ongoing anticipation among fans about when—or if—McIntyre will be able to overcome Reigns.

Drew McIntyre’s Prolonged Struggle Against The Tribal Chief

Roman Reigns, widely recognized as the former Undisputed WWE Champion, has claimed pinfall victories over several top opponents throughout his career. Despite being a two-time WWE Champion himself, Drew McIntyre has yet to pin Reigns in the ring. Their rivalry dates back to their first televised clash at WrestleMania 35, and since then, McIntyre, often referred to as The Celtic Warrior, has not been able to secure a win by pinfall against The Tribal Chief.

Their most recent contest at Clash at the Castle in 2022 marked a significant chapter when Solo Sikoa made his WWE debut. Reigns’s streak continued, leaving McIntyre without the decisive victory he has pursued since his WWE return in 2018.

McIntyre Speaks on the Long-Running Rivalry

Drew McIntyre addressed the ongoing storyline during a conversation with Gorilla Position. He candidly described the impact of his rivalry with Roman Reigns and stated how this battle has defined much of his WWE tenure since rejoining the company over five years ago.

“Yeah, still waiting for that big pinfall over him. [Is that going to be on the horizon?] Well, we’ll see, I’d like to think so since I talked about him for four straight months and it went nowhere. But that’s been kind of the big rivalry since I returned to WWE, like 2018, 2019. Roman and I always seem to find each other, and I still haven’t been able to get that pinfall. When I was with Shane, he managed to get the pinfall, which is pretty cool. But yeah, he’s been my kryptonite. So that’s, yeah, a very long-term story myself and Roman. I’m sure we’ll find our way back to each other inevitably,”

Interest from Other Wrestlers: Thom Latimer Shares His Views

The intrigue surrounding Roman Reigns extends beyond WWE, as NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Thom Latimer recently revealed his ambition to face Reigns in the ring again. In a discussion with Muscle Memory, Latimer emphasized their history, noting the significance of testing himself against a competitor of Reigns’s stature.

“Oh well. I have wrestled him a long, long time ago, but of course I would pick Roman Reigns. You’ve got to shoot for the top, you know what I mean?”

What Comes Next in the Rivalry

Roman Reigns is currently on hiatus from WWE programming, and the timeline for his return has not been disclosed. This absence leaves the future of his feud with Drew McIntyre uncertain, maintaining anticipation around whether McIntyre will finally break the pattern and secure a pinfall over the Tribal Chief. Meanwhile, McIntyre’s relentless pursuit and comments from prominent wrestlers like Thom Latimer ensure that the Roman Reigns undefeated rivalry with Drew McIntyre remains one of professional wrestling’s most watched ongoing narratives.
