Samoa Joe Removed From AEW Contenders Series Due to Injury

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, it was revealed that Kenny Omega, Andrade El Idolo, Swerve Strickland, and “Hangman” Adam Page will compete in a series to determine the next contender for the AEW World Championship at Revolution in March. Two of these wrestlers are scheduled to face off for the #1 Contendership spot at Grand Slam Australia on February 14th.

Samoa Joe Withdraws After Training Injury

Initially, Samoa Joe was expected to be part of the AEW Contenders Series, as confirmed by reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Joe had also been involved earlier this month in matches for a title opportunity against MJF. Unfortunately, it was announced on Wednesday that he sustained a non-contact injury during training and has not been cleared to compete, leading to his removal from the series.

Upcoming Matches and Future Plans for Adam Page

In the recent Dynamite main event, Andrade El Idolo defeated Swerve Strickland and is now set to face Kenny Omega on February 4th. As for Adam Page, details about his role remain uncertain; however, AEW executive Don Callis indicated that a suitable opponent has been identified. This match is expected to occur on February 4th or February 11th, with the winner advancing to the Grand Slam event in Australia.

Significance of the AEW Revolution Event

AEW Revolution is scheduled for Sunday, March 15th, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, and will be broadcast live on pay-per-view. This annual event carries major weight as it will feature the championship match, with the Contenders Series shaping who will ultimately challenge for the AEW World Championship.
