Samoa Joe Reveals Season-2 Twisted Metal Injury: Fractured Ankle Didn’t Stop His Stunt Work

Published:

AEW performer Samoa Joe recently shared details about a serious injury sustained while filming the second season of the Peacock series Twisted Metal. Despite suffering a fractured ankle midway through production, Joe continued performing his demanding stunts and fight scenes without interruption.

In an interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Joe explained that the injury occurred in an unexpectedly ordinary way after many intense stunt sequences, rather than during the stunts themselves.

Accident Occurred Off Set While Navigating Difficult Terrain

Joe described the injury as happening after he exited a vehicle on rough ground.

“Normally, I would say the ring is always a much more precarious place to be in, but halfway through the season, I fractured my ankle,”

he said.

“It was just parking, and I had to hop out the back on some really rocky, busted-up asphalt. I turned my ankle and spent the rest of the season taping it up and limping through it,”

Joe added, revealing how he managed to carry on despite the setback.

Continuing Physical Demands of Portraying ‘Sweet Tooth’ Role

The role Joe plays in Twisted Metal, called ‘Sweet Tooth,’ involves extensive physicality, including fight choreography and driving stunts, all performed by himself. Joe acknowledged the challenge but related it to his wrestling background.

“Twisted Metal is incredibly physical… it’s a demanding role, but spending enough time in the ring as I have, it’s no new territory,”

he remarked, underlining his ability to adapt to the physical rigors required for the series.

Season Premiere and AEW Return Updates

The second season of Twisted Metal debuted on July 31, drawing attention to Joe’s performance despite his injury. Regarding his AEW status, Joe confirmed that he expects to return to wrestling soon after completing his medical recovery.

“As soon as we’re done with that, we’ll be back to business,”

he stated, showing optimism about resuming his wrestling career.

Joe has not appeared on AEW television since the All In: Texas event, where he, alongside Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs, successfully defended the AEW World Trios Championships before a storyline attack by the Death Riders was staged.

Implications for Joe and AEW Fans

This revelation about Samoa Joe’s Samoa Joe Twisted Metal injury highlights his resilience and determination to fulfill demanding roles despite physical challenges. His commitment to both acting and wrestling underscores his professionalism and promises an eager anticipation of his return to AEW after recovery protocols are completed.
