San Jose AI Innovation: A History of Supermicro and an Exciting Future

San Jose AI Innovation: Thirty years ago, Supermicro, Inc., based in North San Jose, became a big part of the business migration to Silicon Valley. They were there to find the best place on Earth to build the best computers. Michael McNerney, Vice President of Marketing, says that their answer was San Jose.

Mayor Matt Mahan, Councilman David Cohen, and other officials from San Jose recently held an event at City Hall to honour the city’s rich history and extend an open invitation to artificial intelligence (AI) companies looking for a new home.

Mayor Mahan wants to help and urge people to invest in AI by proposing a creative AI economic development pilot program that includes tax breaks and energy incentives. He also wants to use business centres to bring startups and AI entrepreneurs to the Downtown Area. Mahan also intends to use the tools that AI technologies offer now to make city services better.

Stephen Cains, the Chief Innovation Officer for San Jose, said that this project tells city workers to develop ways to help AI companies and organizations in the area. An AI expert from San Jose State University named Dr. Ahmed Banafa couldn’t help but wonder why it had taken so long. Sixty per cent of the digital revolution and growth are being driven by AI companies.

In fact, twenty of the top fifty AI companies in the world are based in San Francisco. Because there are so many AI companies in that area, it has become known as “Area AI.”

This new AI world has made San Francisco, north of Silicon Valley, a more cosmopolitan city. Silicon Valley, which is only 45 miles away and a long-lasting tech giant, compete with each other.

The city government is clear about what they want to do, though. Nancy Klein, who is in charge of economic development for San Jose, said that other places may be joining and working. We are the only ones that can compare to us.

It’s a race to be the leader in AI innovation and help the next generation of AI companies grow. He said it best: “This is a place where we want to cultivate the next great technical things.” David Cohen is a councilman from San Jose’s fourth council district.

The City Council’s Rules Committee will look at this plan from Mayor Mahan from October 16th to 20th. After that, city staff will start to think about how to do it. It could be a while before the full council is asked to review the final choice.
