San Jose Daycare Tragedy: The government fined a San Jose daycare centre $11,000 in response to a terrible event and briefly took away its license. This severe action comes after a horrific event in which two little girls drowned, and a third child was lucky to be saved.
The state has also sent a strong warning, implying that the daycare’s license is about to be removed, which casts questions on its future.
But despite these harsh punishments, solid voices for child protection say these steps still need to be completed and effective.
It’s too late and not enough. These kids died because they drowned. Doug Forbes, the founder of the Meow Meow Foundation, says that these families and towns will be changed forever. Forbes emphasizes how serious the situation is because he is moved by the memory of his late daughter Roxie, who sadly died at a Los Angeles summer camp when she was only 6.
The rule was followed by Happy Happy Daycare on Fleetwood Drive in San Jose, who put up a 5-foot gate around their pool. On the other hand, Forbes firmly believes that the government should implement more security measures. Some safety measures include video monitoring, alarms, thorough water safety checks, and making solid emergency plans that kids and their parents should feel free to discuss.
Forbes says these rules should be kept the same for home daycare centres, especially ones with pools on the land.
Forbes says, “Humans are humans,” which means that people make mistakes and stresses the importance of always having an adult around. We could be better. Nobody on our team wants to hurt or kill children.
Kristina Andrews agrees with Forbes that the problem is significant. Andrews’ 3-year-old daughter Kourtney drowned and died, and now she helps the cause through Kourtney’s Kause. She shared a convincing video showing how her alarm system goes off when a door to her pool is left open, even though she had a gate and a pool cover.
Notably, state records show that Happy Happy Home Daycare in San Jose had been cited six times in less than three years. This raised worries about the backyard pool well before the tragic double drowning.
Andrews stresses again the importance of the first line of defence: adults who are aware and responsible, even though the law says otherwise. She agrees that what’s happening in San Jose is common and points out that kids usually do things with other kids, so they need to be watched all the time.
