Seth Rollins, the WWE Superstar recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in October, remains optimistic about continuing his wrestling career despite chronic health issues. The injury, which occurred during his Coast-to-Coast move against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel: Perth, has not deterred Rollins from believing he still has considerable energy and skill left to perform.
Rollins, nearly 40 years old and with a career spanning over two decades, acknowledged that injuries have become an inevitable part of his professional life. While he admits to managing some chronic ailments, he emphasized that his physical and mental condition remains strong enough to keep competing at a high level.
Long-Term Impact of Wrestling on Rollins’ Health
Over the last ten years, Rollins has faced multiple injuries affecting his shoulder, back, and knee. He explained that the nature of his career, involving frequent high-risk maneuvers, opens the door for ongoing physical setbacks. Despite this, he reflected on his resilience, recalling how he continued to wrestle even after the painful injury in Australia last year.
In an interview with ESPN, Rollins shared his thoughts about the progression of his career and aging:
“You know, I’ve got some chronic stuff going on, that’s for sure. I think any athlete that’s, you know—I’m 40 [39] now and I’ve been doing this for 20 years. As we look at me flying across the ring [Crown Jewel: Perth, vs. Cody Rhodes], I still got up. My knee still works, so that’s good. But yeah, accidents happen. It’s a physical sport. It was painful, that shoulder injury, but I’m sure it won’t be the last of my career,”
Seth Rollins stated.
He further elaborated on his mindset regarding his longevity in wrestling:
“I am almost 22 years deep in this wrestling and I’m probably closer to the end than the beginning. However, I’m still under 40 and I feel like I’ve got a lot of years left. I’m really just in the middle of my prime right now. The physical hasn’t declined, and mentally, I’m as sharp as I’ve ever been. So, there’s a lot left in the Seth Rollins tank,”
he concluded.
Changes in WWE Storylines and Emerging Talent
The severity of Rollins’ injury has led WWE to adapt its storylines, bringing new talent into the spotlight. Bron Breakker, Rollins’ former protege, has emerged prominently following Rollins’ forced vacancy of the World Heavyweight Championship due to injury. Breakker’s ambition to claim the title Rollins once held has become a major plot point.
Though Breakker recently lost a title match to CM Punk, his momentum continues as he has been confirmed as a participant in this year’s Royal Rumble event, presenting another opportunity for the young wrestler to ascend within WWE’s ranks and carry forward Rollins’ legacy.
Prospects for Rollins’ Career Moving Forward
Seth Rollins faces a challenging path ahead as he balances the effects of chronic injuries with his passion to compete. While fully aware that physical risks will remain part of his profession, Rollins expresses confidence that his current stage in wrestling is not one of decline but an ongoing prime. His ability to maintain mental sharpness and physical readiness speaks to his commitment to the sport.
The ongoing recovery and WWE’s evolving storylines indicate that while the landscape shifts, Rollins’ presence and influence are likely to endure. Fans and industry observers will watch closely to see how he navigates his health challenges and what role he ultimately plays in WWE’s future programming.
