Downtown Sunnyvale spans from the Caltrain station on Evelyn to Iowa avenues, bounded by Mathilda Avenue to the west and Carol Street to the east. The focus on historic Murphy Avenue, housing numerous locally-owned businesses, led the Sunnyvale City Council to decide to permanently close off traffic on the avenue
