The date for the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event was shifted by Tony Khan, the AEW and ROH executive, to accommodate a significant personal commitment. Originally planned for July 11, the event was first postponed to September 5 before being finally moved to August 29. This change was confirmed to be related to Khan’s desire to attend a high-profile wedding.
Link Between the Pay-Per-View Change and MJF’s Wedding
The wedding in question was that of professional wrestler MJF and Alicia Atout. According to wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, Khan insisted on being present for both the ROH show and the wedding celebration. Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that the date was brought forward from September 5 because Khan would not miss either occasion.
“Originally, the Ring of Honor pay-per-view was supposed to be Friday night (September 5), and they quietly moved it up a week,”
Meltzer said.
“And it was because Tony Khan wanted to go to Max’s wedding, and Tony Khan is not going to miss a show. So if he’s not going to be there because they wanted him at the wedding, then there could not be a show on September 5.”
He also added,
“I know a lot of people knew that they switched it and didn’t know why. I remember I wrote that it’s because of a wedding, and this in fact was the wedding that Tony Khan went to and why Death Before Dishonor was moved up a week.”

Event Distribution and Post-Wedding Wrestling Developments
ROH Death Before Dishonor aired live on pay-per-view, but due to technical issues during the broadcast, the full show was later made available for free on YouTube. This ensured fans could catch every moment without interruption.
The day after his wedding, MJF appeared prominently on AEW Collision by interfering in a TNT Championship match. He caused Mark Briscoe to lose his opportunity against Kyle Fletcher, escalating a brewing rivalry. MJF challenged Briscoe to name a date and location for a confrontation, with Briscoe selecting the upcoming All Out event, though the match stipulation remains undisclosed.
Implications of the Date Change and Future Expectations
Tony Khan’s decision to reschedule a major pay-per-view reflects his involvement in both professional and personal aspects of wrestling. Balancing the demands of managing a company alongside attending important occasions like MJF’s wedding plays a role in scheduling decisions. The move highlights the close-knit relationships in wrestling entertainment and Khan’s commitment to his roster.
Fans can anticipate heightened tension between MJF and Mark Briscoe at All Out, which could deliver a significant storyline in ROH and AEW programming. The rescheduling of Death Before Dishonor also serves as an example of how personal milestones can influence major event dates within the wrestling industry.
