Tony Khan Teases Explosive Tommaso Ciampa AEW Debut Matches

AEW President Tony Khan has recently signed Tommaso Ciampa and welcomed back Andrade El Idolo, expressing enthusiasm for their arrival. Ciampa made a strong impression with his AEW debut on Dynamite a few weeks ago and quickly captured the TNT Championship on the January 31 episode of AEW Collision, marking a significant moment in his AEW career. Meanwhile, Andrade returned to AEW in early January after his WWE no-compete clause expired, advancing toward a number one contender spot for the AEW World Championship at the upcoming Grand Slam Dynamite event. Khan shared his thoughts on both wrestlers during an interview on 107.7 The Bone.

Tony Khan’s Perspective on Signing Tommaso Ciampa

He’s a fantastic wrestler. And to have somebody of his quality come in, instantly he’s additive in AEW. We’ve got somebody that’s joined us that can have fantastic matches whether it’s people he’s lined up against in past wrestling matches, whether it’s a old rival or somebody fresh and new that he’s never matched up against, there’s so many exciting possibilities for Tommaso Ciampa in AEW… There’s a lot of people he’s got existing fired up rivalries against, but then also there’s brand new rivalries and possibilities with so many fantastic young wrestlers because AEW is where the best wrestle.

Khan highlighted Ciampa’s versatility and potential for dynamic rivalries, noting the variety of compelling matchups available. Ciampa’s history with certain opponents promises exciting continuations of old feuds, while new conflicts with AEW’s emerging talent provide fresh narratives for fans to anticipate. Khan emphasized that AEW offers an ideal environment for wrestlers of Ciampa’s caliber to thrive and deliver memorable contests.

Comments on Andrade El Idolo’s Return and Impact

Addressing Andrade’s comeback, Khan expressed long-standing interest and a solid relationship with the star. Andrade’s availability sparked immediate plans to reintegrate him into AEW’s roster, where he previously made a strong impression before departing on positive terms. Now free from contractual restrictions, Andrade quickly positioned himself as a top contender in the promotion.

Andrade El Idolo, when as soon as I heard that he would be available I’ve always wanted him to be here. And when he was available, he’s been here. Andrade El Idolo and I have a great relationship. He had been in AEW previously and he left on fantastic terms. And when it was clear to me that he would be free and clear to join us, every week it’s been great to have him back.

?Tony Khan, AEW President

I’ve always said Andrade has a home here. And when he left years ago, I had went on the record and made it really clear, ‘Andrade El Idolo is leaving on fantastic terms.’ He did a great job. He ended up in the Continental Classic with a great showing in the original Continental Classic, and then left right after that. And I have always said to anybody who asks, ‘He’s always got a home in AEW. I think Andrade El Idolo is incredible, but I also really believe that Andrade El Idolo right now in 2026 is the very best he’s ever been in AEW or anywhere.
