Zelina Vega Bio

Thea Megan Trinidad Büdgen, known professionally as Zelina Vega, is an American professional wrestler born on December 27, 1990, in Queens, New York City. Signed to WWE, she currently performs on the SmackDown brand under the shortened ring name Zelina, a change she adopted in late 2025 after previously using the Zelina Vega and Queen Zelina monikers. A second-generation performer inspired by her late father, Trinidad has competed across Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, the independent circuit, and WWE since debuting in 2010.

Throughout her career, Trinidad has earned recognition as both a competitor and a manager, capturing the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, the WWE Women’s United States Championship, and the Queen’s Crown tournament trophy. Beyond wrestling, she has appeared on screen portraying fellow performer AJ Lee in the 2019 film Fighting with My Family.

Early Life and Background

Thea Megan Trinidad was born in Queens, New York City, and is of Afro-Latin Puerto Rican descent. She grew up watching professional wrestling with her father, Michael Angel Trinidad, and her younger brother, Timothy, and cites Rey Mysterio and Lita as early inspirations. Her parents divorced when she and her brother were young, and she also practiced swimming and baseball through her school years.

When Trinidad was ten years old, her father was killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. He had worked as a telecom analyst for Cantor Fitzgerald at the World Trade Center and was on the 104th floor of the North Tower when it collapsed. Trinidad has said that her father’s memory is the reason she entered the wrestling business. She was featured in an NBC special, Children of 9/11, in September 2011, and later volunteered as a counselor at a camp for children who had lost parents on 9/11.

Path to Professional Wrestling

At seventeen, Trinidad began training under Javi-Air, Azrieal, and T. J. Perkins, sharpening the fundamentals that would launch her career. She made her professional debut on February 20, 2010, for National Wrestling Superstars under the ring name Divina Fly, competing against Brittney Savage in a losing effort. The same day, she also debuted for Women Superstars Uncensored, again facing Savage in a loss.

Trinidad continued working the independent circuit through 2010, teaming with Niya as The Fly Girls and earning her first verified singles victory on September 11, 2010, against Candy Cartwright. In January 2011, after being discovered by Tommy Dreamer, she wrestled a tryout dark match for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, losing to Angelina Love before signing with the promotion.

Zelina Vega Career

Early Career (2010–2013)

Trinidad debuted for TNA on the February 10, 2011 episode of Impact! under the ring name Rosita, presented as the storyline cousin of Sarita. Teaming with Sarita, Madison Rayne, and Tara, Rosita scored an early televised win over Angelina Love, Mickie James, Velvet Sky, and Winter. The Rosita and Sarita pairing soon formed the Mexican America faction with Hernandez and Anarquia.

On March 13, 2011, at Victory Road, Rosita and Sarita defeated Angelina Love and Winter to win the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, with Sarita proclaiming that their victory would launch a Mexican takeover of TNA. The duo made multiple successful defenses before losing the titles to Ms. Tessmacher and Tara in July 2011. Rosita and Sarita continued chasing the championship through 2012 without regaining it, and Trinidad parted ways with TNA in January 2013 after her contract expired.

Independent Circuit and Global Foray (2011–2017)

While splitting time with TNA, Trinidad worked several independent promotions, including Family Wrestling Entertainment, where she debuted in May 2011 and challenged for the FWE Women’s Championship in March 2012. She traveled to Mexico in August 2011 to train with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre coaches Arturo Beristain and Tony Salazar, though a contract offer could not be finalized because of TNA’s working relationship with rival promotion AAA.

Trinidad was announced as part of Global Force Wrestling’s roster in May 2015, debuting that June with a win over Lei’D Tapa. In July 2015, she debuted in Ring of Honor as the manager of Austin Aries, and she later debuted in Shine Wrestling in September 2016 and World Wonder Ring Stardom later that same month.

WWE Breakthrough (2017–2020)

Trinidad signed with WWE in 2017 and began training at the WWE Performance Center, soon working as the on-screen manager of Andrade “Cien” Almas. She made her televised in-ring debut on NXT in April 2018, losing to Candice LeRae, before being drafted to SmackDown during the Superstar Shake-up. On the July 31, 2018 episode of SmackDown, Zelina Vega earned her first main-roster singles win over Lana.

Across 2018 and 2019, Vega competed in high-profile matches including a tag team outing with Almas against Lana and Rusev at SummerSlam, the Women’s Battle Royal at Evolution, and the Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35. She entered the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble at number twenty-five and was eliminated by Shayna Baszler. On November 13, 2020, WWE released Trinidad after she publicly supported unionization in professional wrestling, with reports indicating the release stemmed from disagreements over third-party platform control.

Return and Queen’s Crown Triumph (2021)

Nearly eight months after her release, Vega returned to SmackDown on July 2, 2021, and was announced for that year’s Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. She failed to capture the contract but rebounded by entering the inaugural Queen’s Crown tournament, defeating Toni Storm in the first round and Carmella in the semi-finals before defeating Doudrop in the finals at Crown Jewel on October 21, 2021, to be crowned Queen Zelina. Her coronation on Raw followed, complete with crown, cape, and scepter, and she was rechristened Queen Zelina.

On the October 25, 2021 episode of Raw, Queen Zelina and Carmella defeated Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, marking her first title in WWE. The pair successfully defended the titles against Ripley and A.S.H. in a January 3, 2022 rematch before losing them in a fatal four-way at WrestleMania 38, ending their reign at 131 days.

SmackDown and Legado Del Fantasma Era (2022–2024)

After a seven-month injury hiatus, Vega returned on the October 7, 2022 episode of SmackDown, aligning with Legado Del Fantasma and attacking Hit Row. She entered the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble and turned face in March 2023 by helping Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day, eventually joining Mysterio’s reformed Latino World Order. At Backlash in May 2023, she challenged Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and received a standing ovation from the hometown crowd despite the loss.

Vega qualified for the 2023 Money in the Bank ladder match and later challenged Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Championship in August 2023. Legado Del Fantasma leader Santos Escobar removed her from the group in November 2023, and LWO was drafted to Raw during the 2024 WWE Draft.

Current SmackDown Era (2025)

Vega was transferred back to SmackDown on January 27, 2025, departing LWO in the process. On the April 25, 2025 episode of SmackDown, she defeated Chelsea Green to win the WWE Women’s United States Championship, her first singles title in WWE. She successfully defended the title against Green in a rematch at Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXIX on May 24 before losing it to Giulia on the June 27 episode of SmackDown, ending her reign at 63 days. On the October 10, 2025 episode of SmackDown, she assisted her husband Aleister Black in defeating Damian Priest in a Last Man Standing match, and on November 2, 2025, her ring name was officially shortened to Zelina.
