Aleister Black, a former NXT Champion and SmackDown Superstar, is currently engaged in his second tenure with WWE, having made his return to the company last April. Since then, he has been involved in a significant rivalry with former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest and, more recently, teamed up with his real-life wife, Zelina Vega, on WWE programming.
Recently, Black launched a new feud with 14-time World Champion Randy Orton. In a notable victory last Friday on SmackDown, Black defeated Orton, aided by interference from Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, raising his profile further within WWE’s main roster.
The Excitement Behind Aleister Black’s Current WWE Journey
In a recent interview with SportsBoom, Aleister Black shared his enthusiasm about working alongside both veteran and emerging talent in WWE, expressing how the depth of the roster keeps his character fresh and adaptable.
There is such a wide variety of older talent and also new talent coming through the ranks of NXT that have been moved up to Raw and SmackDown now that make for such an interesting thought process as to how are we going to move forward. Whether it’s to more established talents or with the younger talent, I think there will always be an interest there, because my character can go in so many directions in so many ways that there’s always something for me to do in that regard.

Black further explained the philosophical complexity of his persona, which thrives on provoking the darker sides of others in the ring. He described how this approach allows him to explore new dynamics with different opponents, including younger stars and established main-eventers alike.
The antithesis of the character is obviously to always bring out the quote-unquote worst in people, which he considers the best, which he feels is the true nature of man. In that regard, it’s interesting to see how a Je’Von Evans would respond to that. What is the dark side of a Je’Von Evans? What is the dark side of a Johnny Gargano, even though we kind of already saw that with Aleister Black back in the day? What would happen if we do it in this setting, or what would happen when we do it with the Roman Reigns? What can I drag out of them that the audience has not seen yet?
Working Alongside WWE Veterans Like Randy Orton Adds Value
Aleister Black reflected on the significance of collaborating with WWE veterans, praising their ability to elevate performers around them and describing how such partnerships enhance not only his contests but his entire career trajectory.
Talk about a guy being able to elevate anybody, and Friday was proof of that. Anybody who touches anything with Orton turns into gold because he is who he is. The same goes for Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. The sky is the limit with these guys, and they have the ability to make and break anyone because of the years dedicated to the industry and the business and the way that they have fought for their places within this industry and this company.
He also mentioned the impact of other top stars like CM Punk, emphasizing their rare talent to improve the quality of every match and person involved.
Whatever they touch is just better than gold. It turns to the diamonds. CM Punk is another one. Obviously, everybody knows the history of CM Punk up and down, but when he’s there, everything becomes valuable; everything and everyone does better. That, in my opinion, is the sign of someone who is a true main eventer, when everything turns into money.
The Wider Importance of Aleister Black’s WWE Return
Aleister Black’s current WWE run comes at an important time as he balances encounters with both youthful prospects and seasoned veterans, helping to shape the evolving WWE landscape. His dynamic character and readiness to draw out new dimensions in opponents like Je’Von Evans, Johnny Gargano, and Roman Reigns signify his versatility and impact on the roster.
His victories, such as the recent one over Randy Orton, indicate momentum that could lead to higher-profile storylines and further highlight his role as a key competitor on SmackDown. This period of his career may well strengthen WWE’s blend of legacy talent and rising stars, potentially driving fresh matchups and compelling narratives in upcoming events.
