Zelina Vega Says WWE Rejected Her Extreme Match Ideas: “Barbed Wire Chancla, Ladder Stunts Got Shut Down”

Published:

Zelina Vega, currently holding the WWE Women’s United States Championship, recently revealed that her ambitious and extreme match ideas were rejected by WWE. The discussion, centered on Zelina Vega rejected WWE extreme match ideas, sheds light on her creative process backstage and the reasoning of WWE officials ahead of the Money In The Bank event.

Vega Details Ambitious Hardcore Match Proposals

During an appearance on the Lightweights podcast, Zelina Vega discussed her “Bakersfield Brawl” against Piper Niven on a recent episode of SmackDown. She disclosed that she had envisioned a much more hardcore contest, submitting ideas for daring stunts and props that were ultimately declined due to concerns over safety and storyline pacing.

“I was like, ‘Oh, can I jump off the tron?’ They’re just like, ‘No, no you can’t. We still need to save some oohs and aahs for Money In The Bank tomorrow and you need to just live, you know?’ I’m like, ‘Eventually, I’m going to do it.’”

Vega cited her admiration for Jeff Hardy, highlighting his influence on her willingness to take risks and attempt daredevil feats during matches. Calling herself a longtime fan of Hardy, she expressed a desire to incorporate similar high-energy maneuvers into her future performances.

Rejected Concepts: Barbed Wire Chancla and Ladder Moves

The champion shared some specific concepts she pitched, which included the use of ladders for high-impact spots and an inventive “barbed wire chancla”—a weapon with roots in Latino culture. These ideas, however, did not receive the green light from WWE officials, who opted for a more restrained approach leading into the pay-per-view weekend.

“I asked to use ladders, and I said I wanted to hit her with a barbed wire chancla. I thought it was genius! But they were like, ‘Let’s save the craziness for the pay-per-view,’ and told me to take it easy.”
